OK I am about to buy a drift boat. I have narrowed it down to a couple different boats.
My Toyota truck currently has a hall on the rear bumper. all of the reciever hitches I have seen require removing the rear bumper. There may be some that do not require that but I haven't found one yet. My question is this if the hitch on my bumper sufficient for hauling a drift boat or do I need a reciever hitch?

Thanks

I put a class 3 hitch on my Explorer because I regularly haul either a heavy boat, or a heavy trailer. It didn't require me to remove the bumper.

If you are just hauling a DB, you might be able to get away with just the stock ball. I towed my 14ft runabout for 4 years without a problem behind my '84 Toyota. Try it first to see how it tracks at all speeds

My hitch set-up is from Draw-tite, but I had a dealer install it.

Keep looking. I have a Toyota T100 with the stock bumper that could be equipped with a ball but I opted for a draw tite receiver since I was towing a 5000 lb boat. The draw-tite fits fine under the stock bumper. Check their website. Most applications are bolt on these days with no drilling required. The important thing about your boat/trailer is tongue weight. I would guess that your average driftboat unloaded has very small tongue weight and would be fine on your bumper. Just don't load it with a thousand pounds of gear!

Robert your bumper ball will do just fine. Like Kyle said, keep it light, keep it for your db only. wink

One disadvantage to a bumper ball is you do not have the turning radius that you would with receiver hitch. Try GI Joes for a hitch, they have a ton of that stuff. Should cost around $100-150. They install pretty easy too. Good Saturday project for two people. Ya don't even need any serious tools like an impact wrench. My brother and I installed mine on my '92 Chevy 1/2 ton in a couple of hours.

Robert, check out the owners manual that came with your Toyota, It will give you the towing limitations of your bumper for both tounge weight and gross towing weight..I tow my sled with the ball on my Bronco all the time, as it is well within the limitations.

A drift boat only weights 500# to 750# loaded, your bumper hitch will work fine.
