The missus and I have a belated honeymoon to Cabo in May, and I was wondering if any of the members here have fished there? I am really wanting to get into a marlin, as this will be a once in a lifetime oppurtunity. Can someone tell me some good advice on who to go with, or how much is the going rate is? Thanks, Justin

My wife and I will be down there the first week of May and I usually book two days on a cruiser that That runs about $300 per day. I have'nt checked on the rates this year but I dont expect it to be much higher than that as I'm a repeat customer. Bait is $2 a piece(10 is the usual number bought) and a 10% tip is the norm. You can get by lots cheaper if you go on a smaller boat called a panga or if you can find someone to split a days fishing on the larger cruisers. Email me at angelfishr@aol.com if you want particulars. cool

Hey Justin,
I live in Cabo about 5 months a year, I fish from pangas and they run about $140 to $170 per day for about a 5 hour trip. When you fish from a panga as a norm you are fishing for smaller fish, like tuna, durado and others, all great fun and good to eat if you want to retain them. To get marlin (stripes) in the spring you will need to use a larger boat. If you wait till you get down there you wont get the best boats, and they do average around $350 to $500 per day, plus bait. I use a company called Pisces Sport Fishing, good boats, good Captains, good treatment. You can pull them up and get a fishing report every week at Piscessportfishing.com. If you like you can make your charter plans over the web. If you wait until you go down, go to a charter office and do not use a coyote(a joe blow on the street selling charters) in some cases you could kiss your deposit goodby. Good luck and have a great time. You can also fish out of a small town close to Cabo called San Jose, you will pass it when going to Cabo from the airport, they fish at a place called Gordo Banks, big yellowfin in the spring they average 30 to 60#'s.

Make sure Marlins are in during that time. I fished Ixtapa 3 years ago in September and caught 3 Sail fish (They look like Marlin but smaller) in one short trip and I was told that Marlins peak in Jan-Feb in Ixtapa area.

Thanks everyone for your tips and suggestions, especially Cpt Mike. I looked up Pices web site and was really impressed. I am pretty sure this is who we will go with, looks like a fair chance at a striped Marlin in May. Thanks again gang!
