I just go the new cabelas's tackle craft catalog. I have been browsing and trying to decide on a float rod. Does anyone have any experience with their blanks XML and FE2
I also was checking out the Loomis blanks, which they dont give a good selection is this catalog.

I am looking for a 10'6" rod
any suggestions on specific models?

Hi SA: Since you arnt getting many answers to your question perhaps this will help. I have 5 float rods some are Custom built some are home built. 2 are 10'6 for special puroses like smaller streams and lighter rods;the others are 11'or 12' rods.
For alround use I would suggest 11 to 13' as ideal .This length allows you to hold all the line in the air even on longer casts and drifts.
In my experience the best of the float rod blanks come from Sage,Talon or Loomis. Unfortunatly Loomis seems to be moving away from float rods offering only a few ,Talon has the greatest variety and while Sage are beautiful rods they tend to be prone to breakage, although I havent broken any of mine;( X crossed fingers)
If you plan to fish a centerpin I would strongly recommend maximum length rods,if you fish a baitcaster reel then 11 feet is probably the best length.

I've used the 10 ft XML and FE2. I like the XML. Cabelas stopped selling the XML steelhead rods but continue to sell the blanks/kits. I don't believe they sell the 10 ft 6 in XML blanks. I bought a 10 ft FE3, C44X before they discontinued them.

I had TH Custom rods build me a TH 1264, 10-17 lb, 10 ft 6 in spinning rod. I think they are made from rainshadow blanks. Their site is www.THCustomrods.com. I don't believe AllStar has anything in the same size but you may want to check them out.

I just had a Lamiglas (I think it's a certified pro?) built. It's 10'6" 8-12lb line. Haven't gotten to fish with it yet, but it feels pretty sweet. Apparently Rainshadow is coming out with a 10'6" 8-12lb blank. TH might already have them in. I'd go with the Rainshadow if they are available. Nice rods for the money.
