I would suggest that those of you who plan on fishing near the Dam for Springers this year rethink your anchor system.Last year was not the norm.Remember the Drought ?
Many boaters will need much more anchor and line than required last year.Plan ahead.Get prepared Now.Indications are for a BIG Spring runoff.Colder water should help the bie smile

Hey, BRat,

Some friends and I are planning to come down and fish these this year. I used to live in Portland until about 10 years ago, and used to fish up near the dam in summer for steelies. Is it pretty much the same gear show for the springers? As in, spreader, 4 - 8 oz weight, spinners?

You got to remember this year the water will be much higher and smokin, if you think that you will be able to bounce it like last year you are dreaming. You might be able to with a downrigger.
Als the fish will be swimming much closer to shore giving the bank anglers a great chance at some great springer fishing. Good luck and be careful

Well, the way we used to fish it was pretty close to using downriggers. There are some bars up further down where the water would move pretty good, and we'd use up to 8 or 10 oz's of lead to hold in 15 feet of water. This was for fall fish, now, but I'm imagining the same stuff will work for the springers.

We also used to pick up springers when trolling for walleye, so I've got a hip pocket strategy if necessary.
