My dad,Uncle, and buddy Dave are fishing the Quinalt at the end of this month with Tater. I was wondering if any of you had a favorite rig for those hogs in the Quinalt? rolleyes

Thanks

*Good* cured eggs will do the trick every time.

If you get suckered in to sitting on anchor and pulling plugs above the 101 bridge, try Mag and regular Warts. Metallic Gold and Black worked really well the only time I've done that. I've only done this once at the end of the day, but saw 4 fish caught in about 10 minutes. The fish tend to move past the bridge in the morning and evening. Big Hogs tend to hit the big plugs.

Sand Shrimp works.

Jigs work in low/clear water.

Orange seems to be a good color choice on that river for corkies and drift bobbers.

The real key to that river is finding the fish. Dpending on the days in which the river is netted, fish will tend to be in certain areas of the river. For example, a good guide over there will know that if they don't net on a Monday, in X-days, you can expect most of those fish to be approximately Y location. Give or take.

I love to fish the Quinault knowing that I'll probably have a double digit day with an honest to goodness shot at a big Toad. It's worked once for me. Many fish yes, big fish..welll..it's fishing, and that really boils down to just timing and luck.

I'd be more worried about the weather then anything else. That's usually the most limiting factor on that river.

I've fished it twice and did well both times. 1st time the river was high and murky (about 1' vis) and we used sandshrimp and medium sized cheaters we hooked seven landed six-biggest was 17 pounds

#2 The river was absolutley perfect and we used cheaters and eggs--I just used Borax eggs--visability was about 6'-7' and we landed 24-awesome day!!! Biggest was a twenty pounder. I think Parker was right though just knowing where the fish are going to be is the biggest battle. It did not matter what color we were using I was just grabbing cheaters when I had to replace one and did not care which color! Could not tell you on plugs-we side drifted both times. Good luck and have fun

Thanks fellas for the info, sounds like I was on the right track. Big bait, big fish is what my uncle has always said. I tend to do pretty good with orange scale corkies, and orange yarn. I also tied up a few big yarn ties to try.

I've never been to the Quinault, but with big nates I would have to throw a spoon. I hear a pink worm works good on the nates, but I've never tried one.
