Hey All,

Does anyone own a Alvey rod or reel?
Which one and what are your comments?

I am getting a new setup that's not
sold yet and was wondering what people
thought about Alvey. They have been
around for many many years now and
vert popular in Australia.

Thanks!

yes, i have and alvey rod. it is made by st. croix. i think it's either 8'3" or 8'6" not sure. but, your post reminded me to get it back from the buddy i loaned it to. i've had it for 10 years or so and haven't used it much. i have an alvey reel for it somewhere i'm not sure which size the reel is (i think it's the middle size if that means anything) I did catch one winter steelhead on it when i first got it. was interesting to say the least. to be honest i've now set the rod up with a spinning reel and give it to the guys i take fishing that are rookies, in case they break it. (to me it wouldn't be a great loss) the one thing i will say about the alvey reel is they will cast a LONG way! that was the most impressive thing about the whole set up. have fun with your new set up, i'm going to have to find my old alvey and maybe give it a try once again. wink

Hmm... you can use 'em for river salmon/steelhead fishing... maybe. =)

Just a thought.

Loc: Tacoma, WA,
I have had the same Alvey 750 Reel for at least 15 years, and have only had to change the drag washers once. My reel takes a real beating since I use it on my meat line with 5 lbs. of lead for trolling. Wouldn't hesitate a minute to buy another one.
Good Luck
Scott
