A lot of folks are talking about using prawns for springers. Obviously they aren't talking about sand shrimp. Or, are they? How do you cure these things? Any help would be great. As we've been down to Cathlamet the last two weekends and only have one fish to show for our troubles. Been using kwikfish. But, I think we've been fishing under the fish. Don't really know. But, I'm ready to try something new.

Bank fishermen do extremely well with a spin glo and sand shrimp combination. I would think that a sand shrimp behind a spinner would also work well if you were anchored.

The prawns they are talking about are pre-cured in flo red/pnk/org. You can get them in Portland as they are used most often in the Willamette. FM or GI Joe's.

Rigged on a prawn spinner or by themselves.

Cy just go to grocery store and buy some uncooked prawns....peeled or unpeeled...40 count or larger...peel the shelled ones...use a regular dyed chem cure...reds good...treat just like eggs.

Hi: Cooking prawns toughens them up so that they stand up better on the hook. There is very little difference in the small of cooked vs uncooked prwns. Cooking gives them that excellent orange pink colouration.
So why would a person go to the trouble of getting unkooked prawns.
Cooked prawns have another distinct advantage. You really only need a small piece of prawn on the hook behind a spinner or fly ,the rest of the cooked prawn makes an excellent snack while on the river.
