Hi Guys, got one of these myself - the standard model with the bench seats - and want to put a new long shaft Yamaha 4 stroke on it - I just don't know which one - the 15 or the 25. Any of you got one of these, and can you fill me in on performance details - like how fast can you go, how does it troll down, how is the extra weight of the 25 on the transom for balance when drifting in rough water, an anything else you can think of - I already know Yamaha is the way to go - just want to know how they'll go on my Smokercraft. Thanks in advance laugh

I have the 15' SC Alaskan split seat, with a Yamaha 25hp oil injected motor. I would go with the 25 over the 15. My boat runs almost 35 mph with me, an 85 lb Lab, battery, and full tank of fuel. My friend paced me along the dam at potholes,in his truck. I can run for 2-3 days on a tank of gas, but the 4 stroke will run longer. My 25 will troll slow enough to fish in the lakes but I use an electric motor to troll anyways. The only thing I dont like about the 25 is the bow comes up pretty high when getting on the gas but I get on plane in about 3 sec,so it's no big deal. Either way you go I'm sure you'll be happy, I love my combo, I have lots of time on the sound and the big lakes in E Wa. and have never felt unsafe on any water within reason.

A 15' boat.....I would go with the 25HP. Go bigger if you have the dinero. I have a 14' Northwood with a 15HP Yamaha 4 stroke and it does really good with just me in it. Throw another butt in the front and the performance drops considerably. Wishin' I bought a 25HP. rolleyes

Definitely go with the 25. I use one with a Merc 15 and it's pretty slow with 2 guys and a lot of gear.

Spawnout,

I just bought a 25 hp 4 atroke yamaha for my 14 ft Lowe. You definetely want to go with the 25hp if you can spare the change. My engine runs about 26-27 mph with two 200+ pound men, 2 batteries, trolling motor, full tank of gas and the rest of our gear. By myself, It hits 30+. Your gonna love the Yamaha.

Bene
