just getting ready to fill my curado bsf for the summer steely season. I've always used maxima ug for my mainline and leader. Just wondering if any of you use superlines for mainline.. What are some of the pros and cons with those lines. Well any input would be appreciated.

I've used a couple of the superlines and found out that they're all not what they should be. If your fishing for rockfish or something like that, I could see using it. I have my best luck with maxima ug or maxima perfection (make sure you tie all knots with a Rivers Inlet knot). I also use the Fibre Glow Maxima for my plug rods and then tie in a blood knot or swivel for the last 6 feet. Great for where the plugs are and for mulitiple rods.

I use Fireline on all of my river rods (save for spinning). I like it because it has a smaller diameter so you can fit more of it on your reel. For float fishing, I like it because there is no stretch so it's better for long distance hook sets. For my bottom bouncing rod, I like it because it's so much more sensative. A buddy of mine described a fish biting as the same feeling as running over a brick with a lawn mower.
As far as cutting into the spool, before you put the super line on, put about 20 yards of mono on as backing and that will eliminate that problem.

Power Pro. Won't bury itself into your reel, casts great, ultra sensitive, ultra strong, small diameter, very reliable.
Can't say enough about it. Everyone who I've talked to about this line loves it, even the long-time Maxima whores.

I have Tuff line on one rod and Power Pro on my other Salmon set up. I really like the Power Pro. Its 50lb has the diameter of 12lb mono. Great for plugs and is ultra sensitve. Tuff line is a great line for trollers.

I would very much encourage you to try a super line if you have not. Be patient as they are very different from mono for sure. For me, I could not imagine not using a superline anymore, the sensitivity gained with these lines is incredible. My favorite superline when its new is Fireline but it has a horrible tendency to fray after 20 uses or so eventually turning from black in color to black/white and finally all white. From tests I have personally done it loses its strength considerably once it begins to fray. Tuff line (not tuff line plus) came out best on the line test (for the braids) and it is good line. I have had some problems with it seperating while adjusting a bobber stopper so that might be a consideration. It's not nearly as sensitive as the Fireline. Powerpro is a great line, very sensitive, does not fray from my experience and is quite strong. It tends to wrap around your guides and anything else it touches including another persons line if they come in contact. You might consider using a mono leader with the power pro tho as it tested very low in abrasion resistance. Good luck!

Hey, all...
I have limited experience with braids, except for bottom fishing, so I've got a few questions.
I've just geared up with a new rod and reel for springer fishing. Up until now I've always used my steelhead gear, which works fine until I actually try to land a hot springer from the bank. So...I've got new heavier gear.
I've spooled up my new reel with forty or fifty yards of 30 pound maxima UG, followed by a full spool of 20 pound Fireline. When fishing floats, I don't anticipate many problems. It's drifting that I'm in need of some tips for...
First, I'm concerned about abrasion resistance, so should I use an additional shock leader rather than attach the Fireline directly to my weight? If so, how long and what knot should I use? I used a standard blood knot to attach the line to the backing, and it seemed to be pretty strong. I couldn't break it, at least.
That's all...thanks in advance.
Fish on...
Todd.

I like to use Bass pro shops excel brand superline on my light bass spinning rods. much more strength and sensitivity. i like it better than fireline and it is green. ties great knots. just respooled some with 8 lb berlkey xl and one with the excel. i like to tie my line to something, drag a bunch out (about 70 yards worth today) and reel it back in with tension.( i think it seats the line better) first was the mono, boy could you feel the stretch like a bungie cord. the last reel was the excel. at 70 yards i pulled up like a hookset and no stretch. very impressed. now i realize i gotts start setting the hook less.
