Very interesting comparison. But IMHO the Diawa model has very few applications in the PNW due to its limited line capacity. So the emphasis on the weight of the Shimano as a downside when comparing both models has little significance. Up here I can think of only three gamefish that the Diawa would be perfect for: summer-run steelies, smallmouth and shad. And these species can be easily caught with my spinner setup.

I agree with you HH.
I have the Calais and Had no problem landing Kings and Chums all day.
The drag is exxcellent.

Thanks for the feedback.
The two reels are super, and yes,
the line capacity on the TD-Z
is a down side when fishing for
larger fish that run like crazy.
We love both reels! smile
That's why the score was so close.
