Well, I accidentially left some bait in a cooler that didn't have any ice in it for a few days in my car. When I finally opened the door and discovered it, the smell was about enough to make your eyes water. Now, a week later, the cooler smells fine after being cleaned out with bleach, but the car still stinks like I'm hiding a body in the trunk. Good thing I'm single! Any suggestions on how I can get rid of the smell?

Good one FJ. laugh

I did the same thing once. I took a small cooler with 2 dozen sandshrimp in to work with me, I planned on fishing after work that day. There was a train derailment and I had to leave town for 5 days. I had left the cooler in the cab of my truck. It was in july when I did this. The smell was so bad you could small it even before you opened the door.

I used Frebreeze on all of the interior and it worked pretty good to get the smell out. If that doesnt work take your car to a detailer and have them steam clean the interior.

As the parent of a child that really likes to puke (at least her head doesn't spin eek ), I can attest to the fact that Frebreeze really works.

When in medical school I had to kill 48 lab mice, which I did on December 22. Left them on the lab table on the 5th floor. Forgot about them until January 3. When I came in the front entrance (1st floor) the smell about knocked me over. It got worse each higher floor. Unforgettable.

Upon arriving one very warm September day at Harlequin Lodge in Yakutat, Alaska the owner (Dean Taylor) asked me to help him cart the fish guts can (55 gallons, about half full) to the garbage truck. Once we got to the truck we had to lift the can up to the hopper, and of course it spilled all over me. Only then did Dean tell me that it had been a week since he had emptied the guts can, and of course the weather all week had been at record high temperatures. I will never, ever forget that smell. Ever.

Arklier,

I don't understand why you think it's a good thing that you're a single????

You'll never date anyone in that car anytime soon. Is it a good thing? Well, it beats me! wink

I heard that an open bag of charcoal briquets (not the match light type) will suck up some pretty nasty smells. The Febreeze idea sounds good too. If you have a Lil' Chief smoker, you could cook up a pan of chips with the smoker in the car. Might not get rid of the smell, but it'll sure cover it up.

I remember back when my dad would turn on the shower, then sit on the pot and smoke a cigarette while he waited for the water to warm up. The bathroom had the nastiest smell ever invented-
sh!t, smoke, & steam all rolled up into one. Took a good hour before anyone could go in after him.
