Just curious, every so often I take all the plugs out of the plug box and I wash them with a good degreaser soap. Then I rinse with hot water checking for cracks and hook holes while in the hot water( watch for bubbles )then hang on hangers an let dry. After they have dried I spraw them with WD40 let dry agin.Put back in box@reapply stinky before next use.Have had good luck doing this and have done it for years. Got to wash that stank off. Do you wash the stank off? eek laugh cool

That's a really good question. The posts should be interesting.
I never have 'cleansed' my plugs. They just sit in the plug box lookin beautiful -- most of them never hit the water and I keep buying more and tinkering with the colors.........but when I put one in the water I usually rub scent on it... however I don't catch many fish either!!!!!!!!!

I wash my kwickies with lemon joy at the end of the day to get the stuff off of them. Never touch my steelhead plugs, but I don't put any scent on them.

I wash the scent off, some of them have salt in them which I have heard will cause the metal eye loop to start to rust.

I scrub all my plugs a few times a year.When I'm
useing my salmon plugs I'll wash after each use.
Due to mass stank from sardine wrap's/smelly jelley. Most of my steelhead plugs only get washed
a few times a year.I always use lemon joy dish soap.Good luck,

Hey Hohum
I Have used a secret cleanser for years on my stanky plugs it so happens it works good for stanky breath to. Crest toothpaste and a good old tooth brush, it shines and removes old sardine wrap goo. You want to use a brush with a hard bristle. laugh

Fished a guide at Bonneville for Springers earlier this year and was surprised to note that all the guides within sight were washing their plugs and their hands every time they touched them.

I think some guys get WAY to serious about smells. Come on like salmon and steelhead grow up knowing what we, and lure factories smell like, PLEASE! The plug has to dive good, have good action, be the right color, a fresh wrap, be tuned correctly, and most importantly be in front of fish!!!! The only reason I see to wash plugs is to keep them from loosing color and like strike-zone said, get the old funk off, I could care less about my scent, a freash dino wrap will cure that. Unless every salmon I've ever caught on k-fish was a freak accident.
