Okay all you Saltwater experts out there please give me your opinions on what you feel is the best leader material for tying mooching leaders on. You don't have to get scientific on my ass just let me know brand, color and your reason why.
Thanks in advance

Any quality mono will do the trick IMHO. If Vision is going to be offering pre-tied mooching leaders, whichever manufacturer offers you the lowest cost on bulk mono is the one that I personally would use. Maybe McCoy? I believe they are local?

ive always used 15 lb maxima UG for my mooching leaders, i like it because it is a stiff line and resists twisting so all the spin goes to the swivel.

I have always used Maxima clear, (only available in bulk). I think the good flourocarbon would work great but I have never tried it mooching since I haven't mooched seriously for a few years. Just don't use chameleon, you won't catch a damn thing using that for leader in saltwater.

Trilene Big Game green 20 pound. I use about a seven foot leader when mooching for kings but have a black barrel swivel 3 feet above the hooks which saves on twisting, line for leaders and kelp getting to your cut plug.

Maxima, but I use chameleon (brown). 53 fish in a day can't be wrong.

I use to really like Velux sp? in 15-20lb test for mooching, the leader material was extra limp which I felt provided a more natural presentation when mooching a cutplug for chinook.

Well here's my $0.02 worth. J-line. Comes in aqua semi dark blue, in puget sound, 10# for blackmouth, 12# for kings; 14# for coastal kings. Have used it for 20 plus years and hadn't failed me yet..........

Won't use anything but Coho brand line for mooching rig leaders. Ask the charter operators. Available at Englund Marine Supply in Astoria/Ilwaco. They supply the charters in those areas.

Since i first starting using it, Flourocarbon has been the best. Pretty much invisible underwater, doesn't nick up as much as mono, and has a higher wet tensile strength. Also a really low stretchin, i use it as a main line and now i feel a lot more of the soft hits i used to miss. I use from 4lb to 30lb and haven't had any trouble

maxima ug for mooching or running cut plug off downrigger, cameleon for flasher to lure, gives it more whip and confident to just grab flasher with salmon and just lift in boat or easier to release.
