does anyone know how to tie a blood knot, i looked up the old archives but cant seem to find anything..i dont want to have to respool over 250+ yards of mono everytime my abu gets to low on line to cast, is this very effecctive, say how strong is the knot versus, jus going with a full spool..?? im heading up to the sky for the weekend, any buddy gonna be doing any survellance? i would for one be up for it, tag teaming the thieves...**berkley boy**

A blood knot is a fairly strong knot don't know the percentage but it is up there, personally I would respool all the line. A blood knot is one more weak link that could loose you the fish of a lifetime. Line is fairly cheap and those slabs are few and far between.

I always use A blood knot but I make sure it is down well beyond casting range. When I spool new line I strip off about half a spool, use that for leader material and tie a blood knot to add new line. Blood knots are strong if tied right. Take two line ends. Make a loop in one end and wrap it's end up about eight wraps then pass it back through the loop. Do not cinch it yet. Take the remaining line end, pass it through the wrapped loop, make it's own loop and it's own eight wraps passing it's end back through it's loop. Now pull both lines carefully until the knots slip down and cinch. Snip the remaining ends. Does that make any sense?

You can find it here. You would be better of with a Surgeons knot if you dont wanna replace the whole spool.

Don't be afraid of the blood knot....

When properly executed....no can break....

Actually I usually try to strip down past casting range, then tie on new line...

Might be sorry someday, but knot yet

I've never used a bloodknot but Bobs' video seems pretty straightforward...I used a double-uni knot when attaching my powerpro to mono backing. Seems pretty strong but if I get into my backing (150yds of powerpro out?), I'm screwed anyway.
I will be the lonely one starting out on cracker bar early tomorrow.
Any of you good souls with room in your boat, shout out 'goforchrome!' and make my day.
Maybe Monroe if flows aren't too high.
Good luck to all.

I don't really think you'll be that lonely. I may be there myself since it's probably the only place on the river that's going to be accessible AND give you room to toss gear, but I'm thinking seriously about just sleeping in.

I use them all the time. I can't tell you how many times I've had the blood knot between me and the fish, and it has always held. Don't be afraid of it.

When tied properly this knot will retain about 90% of the lines test lb. rating. Learn variations for lines of different diameter. Will affect casting.
