I have an 83 Alumaweld 16' driftboat with a worn out over the shoulder anchor pully system on the transom. Where can I find the setup that has the foot release mounted on the floor between your feet, then I would also need a new bracket at the transom. I am sure it is a set. What are the pros and cons of changing to the foot release system vs the "turn around and release and retrieve."

Try Clacka.com under assessories. it is 185 dollars. Also if you call them be sure to get the number from the phone book because the 1800 number goes to their Idaho falls store.
good luck

Try Three Rivers Marine in Woodinville. They sell Alumaweld and can set you up with the systems. Only downfall is that the anchor feels about 7 pounds heavier through all those pulleys. I think it's the way to go though both for dropping anchor quickly and pulling anchor while still at the oars.

I have a Clack and opted for the side pully system (pulleys along the right edge) over the foot system primarily because I had been warned about the foot release system in real cold temperatures. If you have water in the boat, especially overnight, you anchor line could freeze up in the floor channel. That was 7 years ago, so maybe they've improved their design. If you won't fish when it's below freezing, then it's a nonissue.

Pate59,

I have my DB set up with a foot release system,
and it works great. Not as many pullies needed as
compared to a side set-up. Also, it allows you to
stay on the sticks while your fishing partner pulls up the anchor. laugh laugh laugh

Pate59,

I just remembered, if your serious about a foot
release system, contact Jim Harrington of Action
Guide Service and he can point ya in the right
direction. He has the best set-up I've seen yet
on his DB. E-mail address is jim@actionguideservice.com

I really like my foot release system, but one drawback is that if there is any water in the bottom of your boat and it is cold- they are next to impossible to thaw out! Also, I accidentally deployed my anchor several times at the most inoportune spots before I remebered not to bump the release with my foot.
They are really nice though when you hook up- you dont have to take your eyes off the fish or rod to drop. Good luck!

Hey Pate,

The anchor system you are looking for is called Bo's Anchor system. I have a brochure at home somewhere! You can find the number here:

Is your last name Pate?
