Hi board members...

I am preparing for a float trip this weekend to a few of my favortie holes, and Thought I would see if any one else has been fishing these waters this week. What is the action like? I assume the flow is down to around 7-8000 so the river should be in good shape.

Whats the word?

Fished this morning - river lower, but slow to come down further. I haven't seen much caught in the past two weeks, but I suspect it'll pick up with some consistent weather (or it won't, what the heck do I know). For whatever reason, seems white is the color of choice for jigs and cheaters.

Figured it does not hurt to ask.

River has been, real sporatic from bank, other than the usual, combat zones.

Or.... if ya need printing done I own a printshop wink ......trades welcome...hint hint :p

I had no action, saw nothing happending for bankies anywhere yesterday (tried the reformatory, Al Borlin, and Sultan). Sledders sort of have the market cornered. wink

Did experience a first, though. Actually had a sand shrimp draw blood. Little @#$^%#$!

Picked up some other cracker's garbage and packed it home, so I guess the day was productive. rolleyes

Hey centerpin
Thanks for the ride, I really appreciate it, life is tough from the bank at times, the water has been so high, I have not been able to fish my usual spots.
You and alex, were very friendly, and It was great to go!!(funny and smart kid too!, and very good guys, both of you)
I guess you got me into the only fish there....(will post pic when centerpin figures out how to load em wink thanx. (besides the huge sucker, and "giant sturgeon" at the bank)
Just wanted to thank you again, nice to have some one in my neck of the woods!!
Nice to fish with people that have done their share of bank fishin....
Nope no fish in sky.....
(buzz bombs and special lead....)...for salmon..
.........NOT!!....
anytime you have an extra seat I am game!!!

Skeets:

Well I've been roaming the banks of the Sky for about 16 years now and I've accidently hooked 4 summer Chinook (there not springers) during those years while summer steelheading from the bank.

Each one of those fish ate a corky with a big sandshrimp tail on the end of it. I assume if your fishing from the boat the standard Columbia springer gear (Kwikies, eggs, prawns, etc.) would do the job.

I'm sure there are some boaters like Parker that could give you alot more insight than me though.

Sure. Here are some insights.

I'd use Kwick fish in dirtier waters. Like the Hoh. wink

I'd use bait divers in cleaner waters.

I'd boondogg using good eggs. I'd rather catch a nice limit of chromer summer steelies over a Sky King any day! Blah! A very over-rated fishery...the Sky Kings, that is.

Learn the areas where the kings hold and be persistant. Also, it helps if there are kings in the river when you are fishing. The Sky kings tend to move in bunches. There one day, gone the next, back again the day after.

Does that help, or am I just talking out my a** again? wink

Say a "Sky" virgin like myself wanted to give it a whirl this weekend, where would be a good place to put in? And is a 12' SmokerCraft with a 9.9 hp prop suitable? Forgive my stupidity as I've only mostly fished the Skagit, Samish, and salt for salmon. Don't need any *zipper-lip* holes, just to be pointed in the right direction. Also, what's a good presentation...spoons, plugs, roe, or all of the above?

If I'm reading the regs correctly, you are allowed one hatchery 'nook between Monroe & the Wallace?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Landed a nice chrome 8# hen on a corky and shrimp. man this fish tore me up! i thought it was a big ass native it took like 5 HUGE runs and almost put me in the rapids every time eek . Damn these summer fish really put you to the test!!!! Whats the deal with all of the fish having immature eggs?

typical teen-
The summer steelhead don't spawn until next year. The hatchery fish spawn from January into early March and the wild summer fish spawn fro mid-March to mid-May. Thus the immature eggs

Those hatchery summer fish disprove the myth that hatchery fish don't fight; those June fish are the best!!

The hatchery fish I catch on the Sky, both summer and winter, fight like wet rags. I can only think of one that's come out of the water. I can't think of a reason why, but that's been my experience with the dozen or so I've caught up there.

stilly bum, out of the 4 fish ive hooked on the sky since sunday 1 busted me off shortly after the headshake, one gave a pretty good fight (better than a wet rag laugh ) and the other 2 absolutley TORE me up! both making huge long runs burning my thumb!

Fished the upper snoho today and brought two chromers to the boat. One was a 11-12# wild mama so gave her a kiss and sent her on her way the other was a 6# brat so I gave him the wood. River is in prime shape and I dont think this rain should affect it at all. The south stilly went out last night.
P.S. shame on you Stilly Bum! I really can only think of one or two summer fish that I've caught in the last 40 years that fought like a "wet rag" and they were hooked so deep I couldn't see the hook. Summer fish generally do their best to tear a guy a new behind. laugh

uh Skeets13 There I was running my mouth again! But the rain I saw on the upper snoho yesterday wasn't going to hurt-it was the rain I didn't see in the mts. that blew us out today. Did the upper snoho again today and put the wood to a 5# brat before the river puked about 7:00.

Skeets I plan on being in the Sultan area tommorrow a.m. probably work the area below Jims rock. I'm pretty sure it should be plenty fishable but I like to fish the Sultan stretch when she's up in the trees. Fish from the bank cause the fish are running right at your feet. Good luck

The Sky should be rippin' tommorrow. The summer 'Nooks should be close at hand with the high water, instead of in the swirly back eddy crap. Like TTT said, these summer fish will tear it up when hooked most of the time. I havent had one dog yet out of the 10+ hooked so far. Ive only got one buck hatchery so far, the rest hens. Anybody else catching just hens? Maybe the bucks are coming a little later??

tight lines....

Rainman...Craven Moorehead...got that new grass skirt and cocoanut bra at 4.2 and it's been raining ever since! confused

Craven...I'm thinking that you need to archive the get up in a sealed chest, with some kind of crypt, warning all of the monsoonal mojo that could be unleashed. laugh

When you do the annual ceremonial rain dance starting in September to draw large bodied silvers into the shoosh shoosh can you do us a favor?
How about posting some photos! laugh

FJ...out.

hey mike, email me your phone number, I will call you, and we can figure out sometime to fish and meet..

I have done most of my fishing...south due to water level issues,I will wait for the sky to drop in better shape before I hit it hard...still go once in a while though!!

Anyone getting any kings yet?

fished upper snoho yesterday and today-one brat yesterday and one today saw plunkers with a couple today. Yesterday the kings put on a pretty good show-saw 4 jump clear of the water and a bunch roll. Funny thing about it was they were out in the middle of the river with all root balls and logs that were comming down. The river really snapped back into shape last night. See ya on the river!

Hey ALl,

Went up to Cable Hole and Then to Humpy Rock this last week, River was still al little High to fish down low, but up at Cable we saw five fish caught in the early AM Friday. Nice job to the guy on the south side in the Blue Shirt/Tan Vest. This guy kept the fish in the water for what seemed to be 20-30 minutes! Well hey if you love the fight, why not. Me and Brother landed 1 native which was carefully released...

Anyone been up since we had all this rain? I bet she is blown again.

Fished the Sky at various holes along Ben Howard road tonight. We never had a bite. Talked to several people in boats who weren't doing any good either.
