This may be a little early to ask but I just want to do a little research ahead of time (plus I am already excited). Has anyone out there done any steelhead fishing on the Anchor river in Alaska? I am planning a trip for the end of October and I want to be able to fish for a couple of days while I up there. What are some of the better techniques and spots? What is the action like?

Thank you very much for all of your help.

Todd

Sniper, I used to live down the road in Homer, and the Anchor was my home river. Caught lots of big kings and silvers and some nice steelhead in that stream. Best bet is to fish down stream from the Sterling Hwy bridge, it has some nice riffles
and pools. We used a lot of spoons, some spinners....like #4-#5 blue fox in red and kelley green and Drift gear...corkies and yarn & slinkys
good luck

Id love to fish the Anchor for steelies. I hear they are really nice fish, not large but perfect. A friend of mine went to the Anchor for 2 weeks in late October about 5 years ago exclusively for steelies. He fly fished and caught fish everyday. he said that the fishing wasnt world class or anything but he caught a few everyday with a few good days mixed in there. He said that there are alot of places you could go and catch alot more fish and bigger ones but it would be hard to find a place where the steelies were so perfect.
