Hey Dogfish, how did you do this last wknd and where did you end up???? Did anyone go and have to release any nooks? We ran into a mix of 50/50 hatch/nate silvers average in the 4# mark and couldn't seem to do any better rolleyes Saw a guy @ Olsons w/ a 20# nook and when questioned he said he ran up to Neah Bay for it.......in a 14' aluminum.,whatever mad What time of year is peak on the big silvers in Sekiu?? The prime time for the northern coho (the big silvers) at Sekiu is the end of September and the first half of October. The state record was broken for coho 3 times in about as many weeks last year from the middle of Sept on. The fishing for silvers the first two weeks of October last year was great. We caught many fish in the mid teens and the largest being 18 1/4 lbs. We used coyote spoons and sonic edge spoons primarily though coho killers and whole herring worked well also. The dephts which produced the most fish were between 40 - 80 feet. Some of the commercial trollers that I spoke to like to fish from 80 - 120 feet, so go deeper if you are only hitting smaller fish. Unfortunately this year they are shutting down the fishing at the end of Sept. I'll definitely be there the last several weeks of Sept.

I got 7 fish last Friday, 1 small king and 6 hatchery silvers. Saturday I got 1 small king and 4 wild silvers, plus a number of lings. Both days I let the king go thinking I would get a bigger one. Both kings were the first of the day, caught within a minute or so of dropping my downriggers the first time. Water was a bit rough, but I took it slow and made out just fine. While my boat is only 18 feet, it is a heavy deep "V" and handled the 5 foot swells and 1 foot wind waves just fine.

Both days I fished right outside of Tatoosh towards Skagway. I used my salmon net to break up a bait ball and literally got a net full of herring. I gave a lot to some other boats out there and brought home 3 gallon bags.
