When I crossed I-90 on my way to work today (I'll be fishing this evening), I was suprised at how few boats were out there. I would guess less than 50 that I could see.

What size are the fish? Are they just 3 - 5 pounders as reported going through the locks? Or are there some decent ones in the 5 - 8 pound range?

Took us a bit longer to limit. We started fishing at O dark-thirty and didn't have much luck until 7am. Caught six fish between 7:15 and 8:15 with the largest about 8-9 lbs. 70'+ was the magic depth. Fished shallower without success. We launched at Coulon Park Thursday night and slept in the boat. Take out wasn't that bad... Fished the south end. Red hooks with 00 flasher seemed to work best.

We were Sockeye Resistant this morning. I crackered the first one off about
5AM. That will teach me to Horse Sockeye. Not really, I was fishing 12#
Ande. Probably not a good idea off the downrigger, even with light releases.
We got a sockeye sized Cutthroat, another cuttie and with all but one line
up prepare to head for the barn, we got a Sockeye!

We fished around Webster Point (just North of 520) to start and then headed
south. We didn't see many fish on, but heard it was good south (really)
early.

4 guys, 8 fish, ~ 2 hours total. Three went about 10 lbs, the other five were around 5-6 lbs. Also caught 2 little sockeye jacks that went about 10-12 inches. Cool coloring on them.

I'm curious as to how the boats by Champagne Point just outside of Juanita Bay did???

We caught all but one of ours between the the bridges, fyi.

Is the money hole producing this year? It was pretty good in 2000.

Got 2 nice sockeye this morning, a 7# and 8#. Both of them actually put up fights making nice small runs and everything. Dad's just rolled up in the line and came to the boat smile

Here's something fresh to try.

Forget the double red gami setup. I refuse to bow down and only fish the typical setup so I tried a single barbless 1/0 gami and threaded a 2" pink curly tail grub up the shaft and fished it behind a small 4" les davis flasher with a 20# 20" leader at 70ft and 20ft from the DR ball. Believe it or not we got 13 to the boat, without a net(forgot it at home). They were so cooperative, they even held still for pictures before going on their way. I also added a snubber above the flasher. I did not lose one fish. Of the 8 fish that popped me off I landed all 8. My friend hooked and lost 15 or more on a modified double hook setup. So he trimmed of the bottom hook and pinched the barb and within 45 minutes he had 5 to the boat. I think the one small hook really made a big difference by not tearing up their mouths. Try it out, those grubs kick azz. But this is my first year out for sockeye, so what do i know.

Well, maybe I should have tried a smaller hook. I got (4) to the boat off of a U20 flatfish and the hooks pulled out just as my son was getting ready to net him. We finally got one landed and the hooks pulled out just as we were lifting the net in the boat. I was surprised the trebble barbed hooks didn't get a better stick. One fish is sure better than none when its sockeye meat! The other set-up with (2) red 3/0 hooks got one or two strikes and the fish didn't stay on.

I took out at least two trips a day and one day it was three. No down riggers just 8 oz weights along with 60 to 65 pulls of line. Last night was the night for the big ones. five fish to the boat that were in the eight pound range. With limits each day it was a blast. Now to clean up the sled and where did everyone go to.. frown

Fished Friday morning for 3 hours, Saturday morning for 3 hours, Saturday evening for 2 hours, and Sunday morning for 1 1/2 hours.
Total count for the weekend was 46 fish. Too bad fishing for Kings isn't this easy. I ran a 2/0 red Gami on 14" of 15# Ande with my 00 flasher, 12# Ande main line with a 9'-6" Lamiglass Med Steelhead rod.I can't believe the disrespect people have for the fighting ability of these fish.I had a blast playing them.Loved the look I was getting from the meat Gomers when I'd turn a fish loose. Oh, did I mention that we always sprayed our gear down with WD40. laugh

I switched from red Gammi's to flourescent pink Gammi's and I could not even get two lines set in the water before I had a fish on. The pink Gammi's kick butt!

The two of us got our limits in couple hrs Sunday morning. 80 ft deep seemed to be the ticket. There is a rumor they may extend the season. Can anyone verify?

There was "talk" at the launches this weekend. Also, there was a little article in the Everett Herald about an extension.
