Southworth is producing respectable size kings. No need to get up early, fish the evening high.

Fished Pt Defiance all weekend- not even a bump from a shaker. Didn't hear much of anything either. All the boats I passed said they have seen nothing caught. Where's all the fish? Maybe we'll see a fresh spurge shortly.

The kings in Elliott Bay must be a little late this year. Kind of like the sockeye.

Don't believe everything you read. We got 8 fish from 9:00 to 11:00 and without a cloud in the sky.

The biggest king I ever caught (28 lb) was at 10 AM. This was two years ago in Elliott Bay.

How deep in what water depth are you catching those kings, if I may ask? Anyone do any good by pier 90, 91 or Todds / Salty's the ticket for kings?

I go against conventional wisdom when it comes to kings in Elliott Bay. I fish right on the surface, rods almost touching the pilings that hold up TODD's. Massive amounts of bait fish hold up in those pilings. I only let out 20 feet of line with an 8oz. banana weight in front of my dodger and hoochie. Gotta be fishing at 0400 to get the morning bite. Once the sun is on the water you are better off going deep right in front of the mouth of the river since that is their destination. I have seen guys jig for kings right under the west Seattle bridge with good success too.

Fished this afternoon/evening and saw two nice kings caught right at tide change (18:30). One fish must have been pushing 30lbs. All I got was a huge ling cod while I was jigging for kings.

Fished it yesterday, they were really short striking. Did manage to get one in the boat. 17.5lbs The fish/boat ratio has gone up alot. The police traffic is also pretty heavy. You can get them to hit the lights/horn for you if you boat a fish eek

My buddy Blair landed a 10 lb king (see pix in other forum) this morning around the tide change. We only saw one other fish caught and that was at first light. We saw Sushis' fish. Hey Sushi was that a small king or big silver?

Anyone fish Elliott with a deep six? do you put a dodger on it as well? or just the lure. I don't have downriggers yet and can't afford them for a while.

Deep Six's will work. Use heavy leader between it and your dodger, at least 30# test. When I use to use them I would put the dodger at least six feet behind the Deep Six. Use a good level line reel so you can count how much line you are letting out and you should catch fish. With most level line reels each time the line guide goes across from side to side that is 5 feet.

Hey Busy,

Me and the fellas from the jobsite
always fight over the dr's,
(since I only 2). Anyway,
my buddy has it down to a science.
Just listen to Carl, he'll point ya'
in the right direction.
Just make sure not to let anyone
cross your line with dr wire.
It's cut your line, and those deep six's
can get spendy after a while! laugh

Kennyray you are right the do add up fast $$$$. We had a boat saturday turn right behind my sled tearing up two of mine. Not one hour later he did it agine. this time we back up the sled to help with the mess. My partner leaned over with his leatherman and with one little snip it was bye bye downrigger cable and ball. Did not have trouble the rest of the day. Go figure.

Remind me to stay away from you Drifboat!.... Just kiddin!

People must realize they are boaters first, not fisherman. It always amazes me that folks think "the rule of tonnage" is in effect at all times... A little common sense goes a long way in today's age... But, as Easy Limits puts it, "Common sense isn't so common anymore."

The Point Defiance Zoo is not on land like most folks think. It's off the beach!

the thing that gets me about combat trolling is when you are headed in a staight line at one speed and some turkey cuts your way and eventually gets mad at you for being there. every day that i'm out it seems that it starts to happen around 700 am. i try and remain patient and breath deep but after about the fifth time i'm cut off my blood heats up.

one guy today came in on me, i slowly turned to parrallel him, he tells me he's pulling about 100' behind him on little weight so i angle off hard to get out of his way within a minute he he's right there again. turn off again. by this point i'm going 90 degrees off my origanal troll. look up within a minute there he is AGAIN! i notice that once he's really close he puts hand down to his kicker and parrallels me gives me a dirty look lets go of his motor and it drifts off to a pretty hard angle in my direction. if it had happened once fine, but after three times i was pretty mad. couldn't get behind him because i would have crossed his lines with my cable. eventually i did what i always do and gunned it hard to get infront of him. the thing that got me wasn't that he was getting in my way and wouldn't move it was that he refused to turn off after i had twice and then kept letting go of his kicker only to drift my way again. mad mad mad

sorry i had to vent. i agree we should all remember when fishing from a boat that we are boaters first, anglers second.

easy, it was a small king the size and color through me for a bit.

Downriggn we would have done nothing but two times he turn right behind us so near I thought we would hit each other. We just showed him that he should watch out for others. eek

1.people will fish out of any thing that floats safe or not
2.50% of the people fishing are ether Brain dead or clueless
3. watch the people behind you.they will cut off your fish .
4. If your boat catches more then one fish they will follow you around like dogs.
:p :p eek :p :p
