I was hoping to fish Seiku this weekend but do not have all the gear I need for my boat. I have a 17.5 foot bowrider but no gps. Is there someone that has an open spot on thier boat? laugh I will do my share. I am trying to get the smell of skunk off my rod. wink

Or, do you think that I would be o.k. out there having never fished this place before? ( I also do not have charts yet.) confused

You should be fine. I fished it for many years with no fish finder, depth finder or GPS. Just a compass. But, if the fog rolls in I would either go in or keep periodically re-finding the bay so that you don't drift out to sea. Believe it or not but I have hooked whopper hook nose on many occasions pulling circles in front of the caves when everyone else is fishing miles out.

Busy,

I don't have a ton of experience with a Deep6, but I do know that when your boat is pitching about as it likely will be going out of Sekiu, the drag of the Deep6 will punish your rod/rodholder in a brutally cyclical manner, instead of just the steady pull as you get on calm seas. Use a heavy rod if you have one.

Regards.

Mike

I usually use 3 to 5 oz of lead with a cut plug, let out 30 to 80 feet fast and let the motor troll it up. You cover all depths and when they are in you should have one on by the time it trolls to the top. Silvers are very aggressive and stupid.

I have done very well at both Seiku and Neah Bay with the smaller of the deep six, a QUALITY ball bearing snap swivel, six foot leader, 3/0 4/0 hooks, and either a cut plug or a cut spinner. You get two baits per herring with the cut spinner.

Start your troll put the six in the water, and let out 12 to 17 pulls in the morning, progressing to 20 to 25 as the afternoon wears on. I rarely get to the afternoon if the fish are there. Keep a rod out when you get one on, and your buddy will probably get one as well. What a zoo. laugh laugh laugh

Thanks for the advice. I think I will give it a try. Does the same setup work in the Sound?
