are the silvers crackin at possesion or pnp yet? was out on tuesday evening, fished the bait house and the point and didnt catch anything but dogs at pnp and a shaker at the bait house. there were so many dog fish that there would be 3 or 4 coming up to eat the ones we had killed and thrown back, it was a creepy sight at dusk..... post those area 9/10 reports!!!!

Even though dogfish are a pest when fishing bait- they do have a place in the ecosystem. And if you read the regs. page 9, under harvest rules, then YOU MAY NOT,3rd paragragh, you may find you are in violation of the rules .

JG, you are correct. The slaying of dogs is against the rules. I wonder what kind of ticket you would get for it? I wonder how many of us have done it?

We caught alot out at Swiftsure and all were released carefully. I do not base my behavior on what others are doing. But I am sure some who are outspoken about other fish issues would be guilty of dogfish abuse.

Dogfish are a pain....why not try artificials? I would assume you would catch a lot less. I am surprised they were coming up so high. Were you fishing the bottom?

Does anyone know if silvers bite as well on artificials? Better or worse? Wat did you use. I like the sonic edge in a herring pattern...

I got 1 silver in area 9 on Sunday morning. It weighed about 4 or 5 pounds. I also got 2 kings one about 10 lbs and another in the mid 20's. It sure was tough letting them go. All the fish were caught before 8:00 AM

Next it will be illegal to swat mosquitos. When a dog destroys my leader & herring, he pays the price.

ok i didn't expect this to turn in to a "save the dogs" post. c'mon people its a feakin dog fish! don't get me wrong im not a kill eveything i catch kind of person but dog fish do nothing but eat baby salmon and all the herring and candlefish they can find. i lost count of all the dogs that iv seen killed on charter boats. also i dont enjoy tying new leaders every 5 mintues and taking 6 dozen herring with me. back to the fishing, it was weird cause iv hardley ever seen dogs take a moving bait, usually if you can keep the herring moving your safe but there were so many i just left. goin out again tomorrow and sunday, hopefully the silver will start showing soon.

Hey, just a warning about the rules, seems some of us only follow the ones we agree with.

I am not about to go on a SAVE THE DAWGS kick here. Shucks, I hate them too! However, it seems to me folks might not read the regs as carefully as they should. It is in black and white- pg 9, para 2- "intentionally" (the word Dogfish is purposely added).

Ever tried eating Dogfish? It's pretty darn good beer battered! Matter of fact, even smoked it's decent. Most of the fish and chips places overseas use some form of shark. I even know of a couple places here. Suprised?

Take time to remove the hooks and throw the Dawg back then tie on a new leader. Hell, it takes about the same time to kill a Dawg. One night when you're kicking back with a couple of cold ones, tie up some new leaders and relax a little.
Because intolerance and impatience might get ya a hefty ticket...

I was fishing up in Canada on a charter and the skipper said that they use Dogfish in England for fish and chips....I thought he was joking. I am sure that it is not bad but they can come and get all they want for all I care. Besides, have you ever had to clean one of them?

Not to mention that there a good sign for fisherman to determain when the fish are showing seeing that they follow the fish in.

I am curious. I've had doggies bite my line off and I pull up nuthin' but the end of my line.
I've asked a couple of people whether running a light cable to my bait is a good idea versus getting my line chomped. They said the salmon can see the cable and are most likely not going to take the bait presented because of it.

Any opinions or experiences with this set-up?

Thanks

food fish? As a shark, the dog's flesh is saturated with urea which must be leached out before it's edible.

eating baby salmon? I doubt that they could catch one.

place in the ecosystem? Like dungeness crab, they are primarily scavengers. I could live with less dogs and more crab.

good sign for fishing? That's a new one on me.

There used to be a large dogfish fishing (trawling, I believe) industry in Puget Sound. They were primarily extracting oil from the dog livers. The little beggers were fished to the brink of local extinction. Unfortunately, before this happened, synthetic substitutes were discovered.

Doggies are still long-lined by boats out of Neah Bay, probably for fish & chips.

First shoot your mouth off and then do the research. Right?

Well, I did a little checking and I might be wrong about the doggy's diet.

darling dogfish

Kind of interesting stuff about the pack hunting and the lifespan. But I'll still stab them when I get a chance.
