I was a spectator, to a scary, and what could of turned out to be tragic, incident on the Green River near Kent. I jog a great deal, when not on the coast, or on the salt Water. A few days ago, on the trail that follows the green in southcenter, tukwila,Kent, I saw a guy fishing for kings. I have seen this guy before. I was not sure of the regs, but i thought it was closed. I stopped, watched for a minute. and decided to just inform the guy it may be closed, and That a fat ticket was possible.Right then young looking female warden came around the corner behind him. I am only about 40 yards away across the river, so I can hear some of the conversation..She asked for ID or liscense, and it looked like the guy got nervous. I worked for the federal goverment in germany, in a law enforcement capacity many years ago.I have seen this demeanor before, I yelled to the agent ALL OK, just to let them both know that a witness was watching, She was on her radio and telling the guy to stay still at the same time. The guy then reaches down into a pack or bag, against the agents demands to stay still. I am now thinking oh ****. The officer then draws her weapon. WRONG<WRONG<WRONG She didnt even put her hands nears her side arm. She is still on the radio yelling Sir, Sir, please sit down. WHAT THE HECK! I would have had my gun pointed with a kill shot a trigger squeeze away. The guy has an object in his hand and throws it in the river. Gun,drugs, knife,????? The next thing i hear is SIR,SIR,Your in trouble now your getting a littering ticket, WHAT??????? This guy is in violation of WDFW rules, concealing, then destroying contraband which was evidence in an investigation that she was trying to conduct, failure to comply with an officers orders. She calls him a Litter bug. This has all taken about 5 minutes. It gets much worse. The officer with no precautions walks right up to him and orders him to put his hands in front of him, and cuffs him with hands out in front of him. What happend to turn around hands on your head, weapon drawn and if you make one move towards those bags again I will blow your fu----- head off. He sat down and she got back on the radio turned her back and walked away, right then the guy jumps up I yell shoot him, he falls to his knees, with his hands cuffed starts going through the same bag, that she just left 3 feet away from him. she turns around and draws her PEPPER SPRAY SIR SIR PLEASE STOP THAT, PlEASE STOP THAT...... The guy stands up and boots the whole bag in the river, she says i will spray you if you dont stop doing that, the bag only went a foot or two into the river and the guy is now in the river with his back to her trying to kick the bag further out into the river. She is 20 feet away talking n the radio. At that point 2 police officers turn the corner weapons drawn, grab the mother f-----, and slam him face first into the sand. they are yelling for him to put his hands behind hs back. He cant they were cuffed in the front. I decided to get in my blazer and go offer a statement of what i saw happen. This took me about 15 minutes when i pull up the guy is standing next to a blue dodge dakota changing into dry clothes. What the hell is going on??? I try to tell the officers what i saw and they stopped me and said they were ok without it. They did say the guy got a littering ticket, and had 3 poles taken from him. This is a scary thought this guy could of taken her life, the other officers and even mine. What kind of training do these agents recieve. I just thought i would share this story with the board. I have nothing but respect for the law enforcement community, and thank god every day that these folks have the balls to do the job day in and day out that most people would not even consider doing. My life evolves around fishing and hunting and i have a extra bit of respect for WDFW agents because they are protecting the resource that i spend my life enjoying, Hats off to all of them but please lets get them all the proper training they need to do the job and make it home to their kids at the end of the day..........

It used to be they had to be hired by the County Sherriff for "X" amount of years.

I'd imagine with the cutbacks that they can be even more stringent with their requirements.

I'd imagine there's regular cops that do this on a daily basis as well.

I've only had one run-in with a female game warden, up until that point I'd thought female cops had quite the attitude.

So, after reading this I decided to satisfy my curiosity and since I have always aspired to work as a game officer instead of an engineer, I went to the State website.
They are not currently recruiting for any DFW officers at this time, and when they do they require a bachelors degree in a wildlife bioligy field or at least two years as a law enforcement official.
I would love to work as one. All the crap they get aside, there would be nothing better than spending my days in the wilds that I love doing what I can to preserve and protect it so that my daughter can one day take her aim on a big bull elk or land that monster fish..........
