prior to going out to fish jeff head/PNP area i checked the weather report....1-2 ft wind waves srtong wind from the south, nothing my 25ft boat could not handle. was shocked to hear a relayed disstres call for a 16ft boat taking on water, 3 people on broad off of possession pt/possession bar area.the call was relayed cause the people in the boat could not call. what fool would go out in a small boat like that into that area. the weather/wind did not suddenly change it was blowing all day.

I am always amazed at how little people consider how the boating /fishing conditions are. I have a 14' aluminum and have been in some pretty rough water by my self. I would not even consider going out in rough water with someone else in my boat. Too much weight.

I watched that same guy, I think -- older red-colored 20'-ish cuddy? Why he decided to continue skidding it farther down into the water and really grinding up his transom is a mystery. Yes, the weather sucked. I was demoing my boat to a prospective buyer, and he got to see how it handled in the rain and slop. He must have been pleased, because he's buying the boat Whoever was crabbing out of Everett -- hope you didn't get checked by the gamey, crabbing was closed as of 9/7 for area 8.1/8.2 and part of 9. I wonder what happens if you report those crabs on your catch card :p Regards. Mike

ray, i think you may be a little spoiled with your 25 footer. i have a 16ft campion and iv been all over the sound and up it the strait with no problems, in all types of condtions. ya sometimes it gets a little rough but if you know what your doing its no big deal. personally 1-2 foot wind waves are nothing to me, and i don't consider myself a fool. i see a lot more 'fools' in the 20-28 foot range because they think nothing can ever go wrong when there in a boat that size, and 75% of them have no business in a boat that size in the first place. don't get me wrong, most weekend warriors should stick to trout fishing inland but some of us in the smaller boats do have a clue. now fog........ thats another story!

When was this? I was out over the weekend in the rain and all but never thought it was that bad...... Though in a 24' Ciera, it takes more than 1-2ft to be too bad. Beats my 17' anyday of the week, too bad I don't own it!!

we fished 8.2 and area 9 on Saturday out of Mukilteo...went 2 for 4 on silvers. Fish checker at the ramp said she counted 20 silvers for over a 160 fisherman and that was at 3:30 in the afternoon. Cigar

Size matters, but it's not the only factor. 16' could be a canoe, or it could be an Arima Sea Explorer. The Sea Explorer would be just fine in the conditions I was in on Sunday. I think what made the seas bad right out of Everett were the hundreds of (fish-less) fishing boats all coming in at about the same time trying to get out of the rain, as the waves were all criss-crossed and confused. Add that to the 1-2' wind waves, and you get a difficult-to-read, sloppy sea. I'll take orderly wind-driven 3-footers any day. BTW, I am now Boatless In Seattle If you have, or know someone that has, a '90's Arima Sea Chaser/Explorer 17' for sale, please let me know. Regards. Mike

Oops No such thing as a 17' Sea EXPLORER. I meant to say 17' Sea Chaser/RANGER. Regards. Mike
