I got very tired of losing my #5 Viibraxs, so I experimented with something new one day...

I bought some 4/0 Bass, Weedless hooks, the ones with the wire guard wrapped around the shank and loops down onto the point of the hook. Kind of spring loaded.
Attach it to the spinner with a split ring... BAMM!!!
I found my solution! laugh
I fished the South Fork Nutsack for silvers all day. I boated more fish than my partner and only lost "ONE" Vibrax that day! eek
Then I attached 2 weedless hooks, back to back, with small piece of heat shrink tubing and attached them with a split ring... DOUBLE BAMM!!!
I was driving the hooks all the way thu the nose of most fish, it works awesome laugh
I could feel the lure going over stumps and snaggs and only lost the one in a root ball. mad

Check your regs on- barbless, point to shank depth (hook size) and whether you can use one or more hooks?
This set up is alittle time consuming at first, but you will save $BIG BUCKS$ on lures.

Sorry I don't have my new scanner set up yet, I could of post a picture. It's pretty simple though.

Go ahead, you can call it the "G-MAN BRAX" laugh laugh

You ole Brax whore! Still got that #5 you gave me at Sportco that day, you know the one rigged with your bassmaster method...havent had a a chance to fish it yet as all the places Ive been are non-boutant restriction. Caught plenty on the single point #5's though cool . Shoot me an email when you are heading down this way, I now have a sled and am ready to roll. That certain "S" river is coming up soon.

Man, I'm all over that tip. I just wish I had tried that last week before I lost every single vibrax I owned. I was about ready to break out the snorkel gear...

Why do those things work so well, btw? It's the only spinner I've had any luck with around here.

Always love seeing someone post that they are fishing for Salmon in a section of a river that isn't open yet for Salmon. The South Fork of the Nutsack doesn't open for salmon until October 16th.

Peace,

Paul

Hey Paul, calm down. Don't jump to conclusions. He didn't say he just came up with this idea. I assume Gman was giving this tip since there are alot of rivers starting to come thick with salmon and give the potential gear fisherman a chance to order up what he needs to try this setup. If you reread what he said above, sounds more like a past experience then a "Guess what I did last week" post.

Good tip Gman. I've done something similar. But where do you find them premade? I've been attaching mono with super glue and making them old fashioned. But only for a few rivers where I have tons of brush to fight through. Would love to find them premade. I assume bass mags would be the place to go.

Paul, What happens when you ASS_U_ME????

You assume I was fishing the north fork this year for silvers, when it's not open and there AIN'T NO FRICKIN SILVERS IN THERE YET!!!? And won't be for another month!
Give me a BREAK! I don't have "STUPID" stamped on my forehead last time I looked! eek

Why don't you assume... I tried this last year or the year before that, or the year before that one?

Why don't you assume... I posted this tip I learned from years past because Fisthead's earlier post stated he lost ALL HIS FRICKIN VIBRAXS!!!

Paul, when you start assuming we're all a bunch of RED NECK OUTLAWS, and your the only UP-RIGHT LAW ABIDING PURIST, who needs to point out our EVIL WAYS! mad
The rest of us, that's been fishing LEGALLY, before you were in diapers, assume your just an A..HOLE PUNK trying to cause trouble on this board and we don't want anything to do with you!

Now... you can get pissed off if I hit a nerve mad
or... realize you made a mistake by jumping to conclusions and...? eek

What do you want the rest of us to assume about you??? wink

Rocklizard,
that lure is a yr old!! It's going to rust! eek
Cut one of the hooks off, a single works just fine for non-bouyant lure restrictions. I believe the gap is still under 3/4" on those hooks.
I'm planning on comming down next week to Floatilla 6.9 for silvers and Gooose is buying all the BEER!!!
I might come down early friday morn. shoot me an E-Mail with your phone #, I'd love to get together for some coffee? laugh

Steelheader69,
I think Basspro shops or Cabela's might carry them. I got mine from a wholeseller in MO called sportsman's supply. I've had an cash acct with them for 10+ years. They carry alot of cool stuff, cheap! laugh

G-MAN,

Hopefully you will accept my sincere apology. I should not accused anyone of anything based on a assumption. I was not trying to stir up any [Bleeeeep!], I made a mistake based on my incorrect assumption.

Besides I like Everson folk, my wife of 16 years was born and raised in Everson. Her family lived right on Main Street.

Sincerely,

Paul frown

P.S. It is a killer tip.

Nicely done, all the way around. Steelheader69 with a nice calm response, G-MAN with a hot response but mitigated with graphics, Paul with a gracious post and G-MAN again with a positive acceptance. What should happen out here and why I still visit this site more then virtually any site on the internet. And hot tips to boot!

Sakia(spelling?) makes a weedless wire treble in a couple of sizes. They are made for bass lures, mostly crankbaits. But they work well for most anything and they don't rust on your favorite Dart jig or buzzbomb.

I thought Gammie made a weedless treble also. I don't use trebles because most rivers don't alow them unless your fishing only for trout.
That's an argument I don't want to have with a gamie, eek Not worth wasting my time on, especially when the fish are in and biting. laugh
I've never tried the ones with the heavy mono guards. Could be worth a Vibrax test? laugh
If any of you do try them let us know, ok? wink

G-man, Great tip, I'm going to have to give that one a try.
Did Gooose tell you he was buying ALL the beer for the flotilla?? If he did, he is telling (fish) stories--he tasked me to bring one can-one very large can laugh
See you there!

Didn't lose 1 lure all day nor did I snag up once! wink
Sure felt alot of branches though. eek

Sure, I think Gooose said he was bringing all the beer, didn't he? laugh laugh
