I have a stupid question about spoons.
rolleyes
I don't use them much and the ones I have, I bought a while back and never really used it.

I just bought a bunch of spoons , swivels, split ring ....etc...from Mor-Tac so I can make my own and try them again.

The question I have is does it matter which end you put the hook on? ( I'm sure it does confused )

I am not sure on which end so I made a few with hooks on one end on a few and opposit end on others.
I am totally green when it comes to making them so how do I go about choosing which end the hook goes on? frown frown

Matt....

Seems pretty bad, but I have several spoons and for the life of me, I cannot answer this without going out to the boat and digging through the box........ and since it is stored a mile away from me, I am no help.

Funny how you see something all the time yet cannot remember the details.

Spoons are always in my vest, I get alot of chuckles from the younger guys when they see me chuckin em I just play stupid until they leave then go back to work hookin fish. I used to live next door to a pretty famous fly fishing writer(I wont drop his name)but he has hands in all that fly fishers do, for 6 years we were neighbors we never said word one to each other, two totally different ideas on how to catch fish....we lived on a certain river and his cabin was up stream from mine, i would watch him fly fish the drift and i gotta say he made it look so easy anyway after beatin the drift up with a chicken feather he would go back in bushes and get a much different looking fishing pole and start hucking a you know what.

Sppons work great for steelies and sivlers. I have caught alot of fish using them. I am a shore fisherman and like to use them early in the am for those aggresive fish . You can cover alot of water.
Here's how I fish them. Cast out, take the slack out of your line. Let the current push your spoon thru the river. This will give it a slow wobbly presentation. Try NOT to reel in, this will lift your spoon off the bottom.
I always carry spoons and spinners with great success. The key to using them is persistance. You have to give them a try everytime you go out. Yes you will loose some but once you get the hang of it, you'll fund they work great

There's a great book out by Bill Herzog called "Spoon Fishing for Steelhead" that you should pick up. Easy read and has a lot of useful info.

I caught my first steelhead on spoon. I've used them for years, and fished right, they are hard to beat. Always keep a good supply in my vest.
