Fished out of Sequim last weekend for coho. The fishing sucked (I don't know why WA coho all have lock jaw) but we managed to get in a group of 3 - 6 gray whales. It was really cool.

The fish arnt lockjawed there just arnt nearly as many this year.

The best days at Sekiu this year were about the same as the worst days last year.

The resort I worked for in Ak just wrapped up their season, a couple buddies of mine up there said they had another phenominal king season but one of the worst silver seasons in the resorts 20 yr. history. The runs are predominantly B.C. fish but I'm sure there are Wa. fish that come through also which leads me to believe its not that there late, more likely, as Rich says, there not coming.

If it was you would have a motor boat pulling them, 3 Coast Guard boats around, 20 granola cruchin green peace freaks gettin run over by the Coast Guard and 75 news choppers above. Oh yeah, don't forget the ancestral modern firearm hanging off the front of thier canoe mad mad mad

Jacob,

Those might have been minke(sp) whales. I don't believe that grey whales have a prominent dorsal fin.

Here's a pic:

That's what I thought at first. The first whale we saw was on the small side so I thought it was possibly a minke. The whale in the pic was bigger than I thought minkes got. I'll have to do som research.

It's probably a good thing we don't see something like that fishing the rivers. It could give us a whole new meaning on getting "spooled"!

I just heard last week from a guy that worked in one of the lumbermills in Aberdeen that over the years, killer whales have been spotted in the Chehalis. Imagine how small you'd feel if one of those monsters surfaced next to your 14 footer.

My friend and I were fishing on Sunday morning and saw a pod of porpoises/minkes whatever. They were awesome to see. Anyone know how big minkes get? These sure were not that big. Also there were none of the telltale whie 'spots' that orcas have. there were about 5 of them.

I did some research and the pic I posted is indeed a minke whale. They average between 20 - 30 feet with the biggest one on record being 35 feet.
