Most of the time when I find myself delayed in traffic, there's a road project at the head of it. Today, no matter which way I leave my home, I'll run into a flagger within a few miles. There are road projects going on all over the city, county, and state, yet government at all levels claims to be flat broke. When does tax freedom day fall now? Somewhere around the first of June? Let's pass R-51, and maybe the 4th of July and tax freedom day can be celebrated simultaneously. Wouldn't that be special! Roads and bridges will still be built and maintained when R-51 fails; it just won't be at the rate the contractors and their current crop of political cronies want. Like my grandfather used to say, "It ain't the high cost of living that'll git ya, it's the cost of living high!" Just my .02

If you consider all the wasted gas, lost time and lost lives we endure becasue we were too cheap to fix this mess years ago, this is a darn cheap soultion. Why do you think both republicans and democrats are backing this?
Actually, studies have shown that more people die from illnesses caused by metropolitan air pollution, than die from auto accidents. Adding a few more freeway lanes, along with Bush's desire to relax clean air standards isn't going to change this fact. Most auto deaths are caused by drunk drivers, tail-gaters, speeders, and dumbs#its behind the wheel. There are no provisions in R-51 for taking these people off the road.

Former Republican Sen. Slade Gorton, politician emeritus, is the pro R-51 co-chair. The State Republican Party has voted to remain neutral on the measure. King County Republicans have voted to oppose R-51, stating "A transportation plan is needed, but we're not convinced that this is the one." That hardly constitutes endorsement by both parties, does it?

Geez, three posts on this topic. Must be the caffeine! I DO appreciate and respect the diversity of opinions offered in this thread. Most importantly, get out and vote. May the best plan win \:\)

why i will vote no on r-51, there is no accountability within government, i allready pay .24 cents on the gallon as is, and if it does pass, it will add 1% more tax to the price of a new car, now if they, the politicians and the state cant be responsible with what they allready have, why give them more...

Anyone from Seattle going to vote for the monorail project? I'm voting no on it. Huge tax increase there and it doesn't even offer relief for the main traffic areas.
