Going to be visiting a buddy who lives in Richland on the weekend of Nov 3 & 4. Im a fly fisherman, hes not. We dont have a boat. Sooooo..........need recommendations on fishing that area from the bank, or wading. We would go after, trout, salmon, steelhead. Anything but bullheads and overhead branches. If there are any guides in that area that work with non flyfisherman, that would be great.
We're trying to avoid driving around all morning , then ending up fishing under a bridge.
We are looking for some serious fishing.
Thanks

You may want to get a guide and fish the Hanford Reach. Looks like the Reach is still producing URB's (up river brights) kings at a fairly consistent rate.

There are a few bankie steelhead spots just above Ice harbor Dam on the Snake. Also a decent bankie spot on the Columbia called Kelly Harbor. It is located right where the Columbia makes the big turn north into Washington. Follow the Columbia south out of the Tri-Cities until you hit the center of the big bend.

I don't have a phone number for him, but Mike Bing guides the reach, and is a great guy and a good fisherman. Try directory assistance in Renton. He knows enough about fly fishing, too, to help you swing both ways, so to speak. smile

One guide I remember seeing on the river when I was there last was Spotted Tail Guide Service. I don't know their number or reputation.

Another guide who fishes that area is Anton Jones .

wink My best advise for the Tri-Cities area would be to plant your corn in the spring....

Overhead Branches are not a problem here in the land of no trees, nomatter where you fish. The Reach closed last week for salmon so the fish can spawn undisturbed. However the river is open below the old hanford town site for salmon and steelhead. some of the salmon are still in ok shape this time of year but most are getting pretty dark. If you want to bank fish the only place is at ringold. Fishing must be pretty good because its as crowded as ive seen it. The guide id recomend is Bruce Beemer, he has pulled fish from under my boat many atime. He can be reached at NW Marine and Sport in Pasco. He has a very comfortable rig and constantly catches fish. If he is not available ask for a recomdation. Good luck!!!

I grew up in the Tri-Cities but only went up to the Ringold are rarely. I tried it last year because I was home over Thankgiving or Christmas and tried to work the shores for a Steelhead. I was swinging a fly and only managed to snag a sucker but I'm confident that there were fish out there since the guys drifting in boats were doing OK. Definitely not my favorite kind of flyfishing water, murky, dodging submerged tumbleweeds...and did I mention wind? I'd be curious to hear how you do if you go. Good luck.
