Hey all,
New member here. I've been lurking for a month or so and thought I'd join in.
I'm a crossover from flyfishing. My original intentions were to use gear to find winter Steelie holes and go back through with a fly. I've since learned there is an equal amount, if not more skill involved in fishing gear. So now I figure I'll do the Bill Herzog thing and be well rounded student and strive for priesthood in the cult of the Gray Ghost.
Anyway, my question to you all is: Are the salmon eggs in the packages I'm seeing at Sportco "good enough" to work with until I'm able to gather up my own fresh supply?
Any help 'd be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Larry

Welcome Steelworker ... yes, they will work. Store-bought eggs often will not milk as well or have the appearance as some of the better cures out there, but they will catch some fish.

Another option for you too is to look at sandshrimp as an option. Winter steelhead love them and I usually fish them over eggs myself. I like the fact that if fresh and properly set up on the hook (I'm pretty sure I have a tip on it, if not, I'll make one one of these days), they'll outlast an egg cluster and they're usually much less messy to work with smile

Just remember to get your egg supply from those early season brats wink

Again, welcome!

Another option is to have Scott Amerman of Amerman Salmon Eggs mail you some of his "store bought eggs" He mails them across the country and will outfish any other store bought eggs as they are a fresh cured guide quality egg. His phone number is 503.392.9468 Tell him Grant sent you.
