Anybody know the Hoodsport Indian netting schedule phone number? Or if it is posted on the internet, the URL?

I think it's the Skokomish Tribe.

Thanks!

Cruising back from Port Townsend yesterday I watched a steady stream of purse seiners headed for Hood Canal. Dozens of large seiners were coming from Seattle and Everett. I think I saw smoke signals going back and forth...My indian interpreter translator read me their message: " Catchem heap big Chum...Strip Eggs...toss fish overboard....make big wampum selling eggs to white eyes.."

I don't think that big fleet was rushing in to net those fish for 10 cents a pound...when eggs bring $2 or more per pound. Hopefully someone will watch the netting and see how many blackmouth incidental catches they get, too. Go GET Em Co-Managers!!!! evil evil evil

Traditionally they net on Tues and Thursday, but I heard they are now netting for Chums on Mon. Wed. Fri and Sun.

Not sure of the source.

Hey granpa, any purse seiners leaving Seattle or Everett were full of white guys. If you actually read what is out there, the annual tribal chum regulation doesn't allow for purse seines and hasn't for a really long time.

From http://www.pnptc.org/regs/salmon/F02-043_Chum_Annual.txt

"TOPIC 2. LAWFUL GEAR

Marine drift gillnets (Minimum stretched mesh 5" inches in all areas. Length as specified in Tribal Ordinances).

Marine setnets (Minimum stretched mesh 5" inches in all areas. Maximum length in Areas 6D and 12A 100 fms. Elsewhere, 150 fms.)

Hand pull beach seines (no mechanical retrieval permitted), in Areas 12, 12A, 12B only (165 fms. max. length. 100 mesh max. depth. 4.5" inches max. mesh size. Max. lead 50 fms. Multifilament net only)

Hand held gear (Hook-and-line, dipnets, snaglines, gaffs) as specified in Tribal Ordinances."

Set net and drift nets are typically from skiffs or front loaders, so any purse seiner you see is a non tribal boat. Hood Canal fall chum is the only commercial nontribal fishery left in Puget Sound. But, hey, you got to act like a racist with you "make big wampum" crap, so I guess thats ok.... beathead beathead

FYI: I called the following number: Skokomish Indian Tribe Fisheries Dept (360) 877-5213. They said seining right at the Hoodsport Hatchery would begin Tuesday Nov. 12. And Thursday Nov. 14, and most likely Tuesdays and Thursdays after that. I think this is the correct info, but I don't know.
