Brand isn't important to me, I know what I like. But which is a better rod for boondogging? Or do you prefer a different rod?

Onch, I belive the 1141 was designed by Clancy Holt for boondogging for Gloomis. I know a ton of guides use this rod for dogging and when I can free up the funds plan on gettin one. The 1143 I'd like to get for fishing float and jigs and to have a little longer drift rod. I don't think a guy could go wrong with either one. what

I like the 1082 better that either,a little stiffer for hook sets, no apparent loss of feel for the light takes

JMO, but.....

IMX 1141 for doggin'! The extra sensitivity and lighter weight are a super BONUS when doggin' all day long.

I put my hours in this summer doggin' up summer runs. Here's what I can conclude:

Allstar 1141 was heavy.

GL3 1141 was nicer, but still heavy.

IMX 1141 were perfect. Light, sensitive, and well balanced. You will fish this all day and not get tired, or tired of using this rod!

GLX 1141's are too fragile and a way over priced. No benefit with this rod over the IMX.

I just bought a 1143C GL3 and am very happy with it! I am still trying to get used to the lighter tip section compared with my last rod. The take seems much slower, the tip loads and feels sort of spongy where my last rod, with the faster tip section, transmitted that to the handle more efficiently. That I believe is due to the extra legnth. In exchange though it is easy to keep your line up out of the current on long casts.
I have had several fish on so far, and IMO the butt section is too light. This rod wasn't designed for horsing fish. I don't horse fish around all the time but some extra power is nice to have in reserve.
After all that... I am very happy with the rod and actually would only make minor changes to suit my style of fishing. To me the 1143 is the rod of choice over a 1141 anyday.
Good luck!

My opinion.. the 1143 all the way.
The 1141 is a bit slow for me.. I like the soft tip of the 1143, with a decent mid/butt section to get a good hook set.

we sell many more 1143 to boondoggers than we do 1141..

The 1141 is a great doggin rod..thats it eek
This is their one and only use,It just feels too soft for me.
But I prefer to use my 1143 for all my driftin needs including doggin.

I custom built my GL3 1141 years ago with casting guides and won't use anything else in low clear water when fishing steelhead....winter or summer. It is absolutely the favorite rod in my arsenal. Sure, the IMX is a little lighter but not worth an extra $150.00 in my opinion.

I wish Loomis would offer the 1141 in a casting model again like they did back in the IM6 days......stupid move on their part!

The 1143's are a great all around rod but the 1141 is the boondogging special. The softness of the rod is what makes it work so well, a steelie can hang on to the bait for quite awhile and not no its about to be slammed!!! <img border="0" alt="[eat]" title="" src="graemlins/eat.gif" /> Don't have to have that instant reaction time to get a hookup. I had a 1082 and loved it til' it broke, gonna build set of 3 1141's for my Dad, Son and Myself.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh
