So good to be back home to do a little fishing... I was getting sick of that 75+ degree heat..

Hit Green Pt this morning and was rocked by ole Mr. Blackmouth in 145' after "ringing the dinner bell" with a Glo Green Hotspot and a B-2 Mini Squid on 35" of 50# leader.

Had a couple of 18" shakers at the tide change. Lost one maybe 7# at 0945.

Bad news... I broke off my transducer mount this morning running to Narrow's.. Other than that, beautiful morning to be out on the pond. Now if I could just nail one like this next weekend for the derby!

See you all at the derby.

Hey Downriggin, that was me in the Tiderunner in front of you as you pulled into the Marina today. Sorry I didn't get to introduce myself. By the time I got my boat back into my locker, you were gone. Looks like you're tied on the December Derby huh? Russ said it was a nice fish. My buddy and I were going to hunt you down at Grn Point, but we hit Pt. Defiance instead. We did really well there, but just couldn't get the bigger ones to take our offerings. Jack

I was wondering why in the heck you guys asked, "Green Point?" I am sure we'll crossed paths again. Fishing the derby next week?

Hey DR, saw you out there this AM - I was in the Smokercraft Alaskan with another guy. We got one about 7# about the time you left, out of a big baitball at 145' - must have been the one you crackered off :p Looks like you got the nice one though laugh . Also caught shakers of course, a couple close but not worth measuring. Caught a few shakers at Gibson on the incomer too - lots of bait over there but no big boys. We seemed to do best on the Coho Killer behind the hotspot. beer

DEA,

I was using the "triple glo" (glo green) on a single 5/0 hooked through the head. About every 10 minutes, I drop the boat into neutral and bounce the ball off the bottom ("ringing the dinner bell").

Sorry, but the scent is a secret. I will tell you 60% of the scent is herring Smelly Jelly and the rest is additives. I smear the flasher, leader, and squid with the scent.

It was great to see a few faces out off of Green. Hope to see you in the coming weeks. Troll up close and say hi. I promise not to bit your heads off like some folks do.

Nice Fish Downriggin. Like I told you earlier, we fished Grn Pt. on Saturday and only got shakers. Hopefully do better on Saturday.
Give me a buzz at the house...TAP class all week.

Don't like the sound of this National Weather Service warning for Derby weekend:

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN... TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. A SNOW ADVISORY
IS IN EFFECT FOR THE CASCADES FOR TUESDAY. GALE WARNINGS ARE
EXPECTED FOR THE COAST AND ENTRANCES TO THE STRAIT OF JUAN DE FUCA
ON TUESDAY. GALE FORCE WINDS AND HAZARDOUS SURF CAN BE EXPECTED AT
TIMES THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK AND INTO THE WEEKEND.

Don't like the sound of this PS forecast either:

SAT...SE WIND 15 TO 25 KT... WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT

Real nasty at Green Point in a sou'easter, especially in my little open Smokercraft. Crap frown

I don't think Russ and Stu will send us out... I am sure there is a liability issue with the derby going on. Maybe Sunday? I'll have to find out.
I am headed out late morning after I install the new transducer.

I hate crossing Carr Inlet in that mess. I might launch a Wollechet and fish Fox Pt.
That SE is definitely a "package rattler."

GP is located just west of Fox Island.
Here is a link with Green Pt

Green Pt is located just near the bottom middle of the link.

If they (Narrow's) don't call it off, it is going to be one tough derby! Problem with Fox Pt is... we're fishing the incoming- not the outgoing. However, more towards the old ferry landing has it's moments. I got my biggest BM last year in conditions that were bad. I was foolish for even heading out. But that's the life of us BM fisherman. It is going to be a rough trip across to Narrow's for us little boat guys!

Was going to head out this afternoon, but wind was howling. Looks like I might be able to put a couple hours in early tomorrow morning. I have my fingers crossed for "decent" weather.

I'm not even taking my little Alaskan across the Narrows, I'm gonna launch at Fox Island and dink around over there, wherever the lee side is at the moment. If we get much SE wind I'll lauch at Horsehead Bay and fish the other side of the point towards Cutts Island, that's better on the incomer anyway. If its westerly at all that's going to be messy, though. Shoulda had the derby last week, huh? Especially with that pig you caught eek beer

Downriggen and guys, I talked to Stu today at our restaurant, he comes in often for razor clams, but had oyster stew instead today. I asked him about the weather and he said that they couldn't control that and that the derby would still be a go this weekend. If this weather holds up, the pot might not be a big one, but braggin rights are always good for something. I might have to fish out of the sled this weekend as I took the troller off the other boat and am using it on the sled for now ( My little Merc needs a stator), so it will be bouncy for many of us. Look for the 18 alumaweld formula vee, with two Yamis on the back, along with the electric MinnKota. Give me a holler and I will do the same.
