Saw them open for the Stones, or was it The Who, around 1980. A very hazy time period in my life....lol. But fishing was fantastic back then.

Hey stlhead, it was the Who they opened up for in 80'. It was the Who's farewell tour in the Kingdome, and the Clash rocked the house down. Not many stuck around for the Who (I did). It was an awesome concert, but my ears bled for a couple weeks after that. LOL (just kidding, just wrang alot). They may have opened for the Stones, but don't remember them opening for them the few times I saw the Stones (which this was in WA, not sure where you meant statewise).

The Who, Clash was October 1982 I think. The Stones were 1981 I believe. Can't remember the band that open because we arrived late, just in time for a girl to lose her life within feet of us when she feel from a ledge in the Kingdome. Talking about a bad way to start a Stones concert, man that was one!
Anyway I got back stage to sample some of the catered food with the band(Clash) and it was cool. That was back when I worked in the music business. It was really sad when we lost Bob Marley and Peter Tosh(Reggae) also a style that the Clash loved and followed. frown

I was at that same concert, matter of fact, I still have the ticket stub (will take offers). That is too bad as he was fairly young. Think he was a smoker though...

Steelheader69, it must have been the Who then in the Dome. Like I said there are some parts about that era that aren't too clear....lol.

I remember when the girl fell and I have all my old stubs somewhere too. Even a Who flag and button. That was about the only times I would come into Seattle to see concerts or a ball game.

The Greg Kihn Band and the J. Geils Band opened up for The Stones in 1981. I was there.......it was their first farewell tour. The guy sitting in front of me puked on the guy sitting in front of him. The fight was on! Those were the days. Jack

It ws J Geils and Greg Kihn indeed ... sat in "Obstructed view" 200 level right behind the stage. Still remember that even then, Charlie Watts was sporting a big bald spot on top of his head smile

Second concert I'd ever been to ... saw the Grateful Dead in Portland the year before.

Lots of memories of the Clash ... still have my vinyl copy of Combat Rock smile Don't have anything to play it on anymore though!

I'm getting old ...

Sparky you are right to mention Joey Ramone. The Romones were a unique and special band. I also got to see them a bunch of times and always enjoyed the energy of a Ramones gig.

And H2O, you're also right, there will be one helova jam in the after life. And it's getting better all the time. mad

The Stones concert at the King Dome in 81, had me and party arriving on the ramp in time to be the nearest people to the girl when she hit the concrete. One of my friends was a nurse and she was the first to try to assist the girl as we kelp people away. We were all very high at the time and man did it bum us out. confused Went on to enjoy the show but what a footnote. frown

LONG LIVE THE CLASH. Joey Strummer was the man (should I stay or should I go now) I always liked that band let his name live in the music hall of fame forever and if it's not in ther put it in there. what

Sad to see strummer and joey go. I just LOVE blasting the ramones, clash or sex pistols when combat trolling at the mouth of the dechutes. Repelent for the old farts who pull just a little too close. White riot and london calling are particularly effective slap

Never was a clash fan,myself,.. but any musician of fame like that with a following is sure to be missed .....

The Gorge is the [Bleeeeep!] now!!
In my day the Hec Ed used to have some cool concerts, and the smaller Astor Park.

Days of the "Doghouse" and the "Rock Theatre" are what I miss in Seattle, amongst many more.....

It used to be a cool city, till we were invaded by out-of-towners, including the sealions... laugh

While at the parent's house for the holidays, I grabbed an old momento that I thought would fit in nicely in this thread.

One of those cheesy mirrors that I won at the Rose festival by tossing darts at balloons decorated with a sticker from one of those "old" Who concerts smile

I can't remember the year of the Who's concert, but know for a fact the Clash opened for them. I still have the concert shirt somewhere. One of the old white body, black sleeve with a memorial for Keith Moon on the back. Great concert. May have been 82', I was in Junior High (my brother took me). So that would've been about right. Not sure about the stones, didn't see them until later on.
