Washington State should legalize MJ and tax it like the liquor and cigarette sales. Just make the tax rate about 600% higher. We got too many cannabis heads now. Wouldn't you know?

sard-dont taxes hurt the economy????? how about release the 1.5 million americans in jail for non-violent drug crimes and you will have a treasury increase of 1.5 million people times $40,000/year which is the annual cost of jail housing

Whata' ya' mean, "too many cannabis head . . .?" Since no one's ever died from using cannabis, and people die every day from using alcohol and tobacco, I think you've got your priorities skewed backwards, like most conservatives.

If marijuana is leagalized and taxed at the rate you suggest, most of the trade will stay on the black market, and most of the problems that could be solved through legalization won't be. It would make more sense, and be more effective to legalize it and place no more than a 10% tax on it.

You are right Lupo. Taxes are bad punitive devices. Creates hate and discontent in the populace. Kinda like the Washington State monopoly on booze. Guess the State could run the drug market. Then the politicos would probably be drug cartel members rather than just power hungry control freaks.
I don't know how to fix the 'drug problem.'I do know that if you think you have entitlement peoples now, that will be nothing compared to what will happen if drugs are essentially freebies. And then again, there would be a lot of happy socialists on the scene.
Close the jails and let the vigilantes handle the troublesome ones. Save a lot of dollars that way.

sard- our entitlement peoples are the corporations that suck up over a million dollars in corporate welfare for every dollar in direct payments to the poor........if you have ever heard the term "pork" in politics, they are referring to corporate welfare.......
