why would the fish and wildlife allow some dumb seattle cops to hit a tranquilized bear with tazer guns..... the bear was allready tranquilized...but i guess in a dumb ass cops mind, if it is black and still kicking then shoot it multiple times with a tazer until it dies........

yeah a bear in seattle is a problem, but it was allready under control when the cops killed it with the tazer guns.......and why would fish and wildlife allow those jackasses to get involved with a bear that they had allready tranquilized.

i would be ashamed to have jackasses like that serving or protecting in my neighborhood. let fish and wildlife do their job and stay the hell out of the way

I wont be calling cops names even tho I may feel like doing so. Can you imagine yourself being the guy that showed up on Capitol Hill when that wacko Huff was blasting away.

yeah i can imagine being that guy.....i can also remember the cop that came to our house to dispose of a rabid racoon because we were not allowed to do so ourselves....he missed it four times in a row with his service revolver at a range of no more than ten feet......

what does a capitol hill shooter have to do with two dumb cops that decide to tazer a bear that has allready been tranquilized and is on its back kicking.....????????????

Lupo,

I don't have the facts of the story. I suppose, however, that it's likely that the cops didn't consult F&W before they tasered the bear. Are there facts of the story indicating that F&W "allowed" the cops to do so? I'm not criticizing, just asking. There seems to be a dearth of facts relating to many interesting and important stories.

In the greater scheme of things, this probably doesn't matter much. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a future for any urban bear. They will conflict with society, and sooner or later, the bears always lose.

Now your remark about cops tasering anything black and still kicking, that is a low blow and uncalled for. And yeah, I know a lot of cops aren't angels. If they were, they wouldn't make good cops.

Back in the day a bear in camp was a simple shot to the head away from as humane a death as an animal can ask for, people create huge problems out of the smallest molehills.........

I don't like tazers either AuntyM, at the point cops are supposed to be using tazers they should be using their sidearms, but with tazers they seem to be a little trigger happy.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

In an earlier incident, a F & W officer shot and "wounded" a black bear in an Issaquah neighborhood. Nothing like a bleeding bruin pissed off around your kids playground. So, maybe the F & W decided to bring expert marksmen(cops). The tazers? Stupid.

Speaking of expert marksmen.........many years ago I was driving home from Lake Chelan with a friend and we saw a huge rattlesnake crossing the highway. We stopped to check it out. A Washington State Patrolman stopped and asked if we wanted to see him shoot it. Sure. From 10 feet....missed. Second shot.....dead snake.

The Ballot Initiative is a bad thing when people vote on emotion rather than logic, and banning hound hunting was a perfect example. Now instead of hunting tags generating state revenue and keeping bear and couger populations in check, we've got bears and couger in urban areas and animal control spends state money to deal with them. WTF.

I took the family camping on Maristone Island last weekend and the guy in camp next to me came running over to say he had just seen a 6-foot couger run up the hill 200 yards from a campground full of kids.

Compared to many of the people that are currently living in WA these days (our Pop. has tripled in the last 10 yrs.) I would prefer to live next to the Bears & Cougars.

Hey at least they don't drive like idiots, screw up our state with stupid initiatives, and for the most part they keep to themselves...and if they DO give ya grief you can go ahead and shoot the bastages.

Salmo, it's just a little un-nerving with a 6 and an 8-year old running around. I'm told the deer population on the Island is way down as well. Go figure.

Excellent Sol!
I live in Cali, and have seen first hand how animal planet watching do gooders can mess up the whole works.
First I watched Mountain Lions decimate our deer herds, then I watched the news as Lions killed joggers and bicyclists.
Hell, I've seen three in my backyard!
You nailed it bud.

I had heard that the tranquilized hadn't done anything to the bear, but knowing the police force they made a mistake and whipped out their tazers and placed them right into the bear. But even if the bear lived, it was in Seattle, so for the most part its "urbanized" and a return to the wild would not likely work out for the bear because of its dependance on humans and the trash outside their house.

When I worked for the Game Dept. many years ago, I found out that tranquilzers are a real hit/miss proposition when it comes to knowing how much to use. Some critters will take a real large dose to have the desired affect and the same amount will kill another.
Urban do-gooders and habitat loss are bad for wildlife. Too bad wildlife management has become so political.

The Bruins have always owned the "Huskey(s)" and probably won't change much in the near future. Actually, who hasn't owned the Dawgs lately?
