Yak and anyone else--
Reports are in and the Situk is full of Steelhead. They came in a few weeks late and it is real good fishing right now. If you can afford the air fare, get up there and catch some great fishing.

Im going to try and make it up there next year. Is April or May usually better for the metalheads? And when do the salmon hit the river in force?

Late April for Steelhead, this year they were about two weeks late. The river is full of carryover fish but the brite Spring fish come in April and May. Thousands come in during that time. We had 20 fish days and the main run had not shown up yet. Best Native Steelheading you will ever experience.
The Sockeye/King fishing is awsome from June through th emiddle of July. !4 miles of river and about 65,000 Sockeye! STAM knows!!
Halibut from 50lbs to 150lbs. in around 100 to 150 feet of water, real nice.
Silvers are from Mid August through October. September is sold out at most lodges in Yakutat, that is how good the Coho is that time of year, but October can be as good or even better as long as you can put up with the weather at times.
