Heard a rumor today from a couple different people that they might shut down Reiter Ponds due to the fish return at the hatchery being so low.Can anyone substantiate this? It was real slow up there this morning. I saw one nice winter fish caught and I hooked one but wasn't able to get it in.

Did'nt they do it on the Sky 5 or 6 years ago? Then they opened back up after a good rain in Jan.Because the trap was full of fish and they recived all the fish they needed in a couple of days.

The Green that is in my backyard?
They should because there isn't any water or fish in it. Not as if any one is fishing the Green anyway (except for the tribe).

The Green is in my back yard, and it would be a shame if they closed it early , that would put more people on rivers like the Puy and Carbon. The state never seems to think about the presure it puts on other watersheds when it closes areas. As far as there not being any fish keep telling yourself that , I like the solitude.

ITs all about el nino I think, cuz every river is in the same situation. The funny thing is the hateries, take the cowlitz for example have just as many fish checked in as this time last year. But no one is catching them except for at night, I've seen 4 dif reports stating how awesome the fishing was at night at blue creek and barrier dam. The cow is running very low, 3000 cfs, when the average is like 7 or 8 thousand cfs. So are the fish just moving at night and have lock jaw during the day? I think the fish are out there for every river and are just a little behind becaue of el nino, every run of coho and other salmon species was late this year, there's still a bunch of them milling around barrier dam on the cow even. So maybe the steelies are late too, or new tactics are required for the conditions, like fishing at night where you can. Waterboy oh yeah i caught a 30 some pound bright wild chinook hen on the cow a few days after Thanksgiving, that we obviously released. and thats real late for a king.

It is no longer a rumor, see Wdfw websight for details, same issue for most north sound terminal fisheries, not enough fish for broodstock, maybe mother nature is taking care of the hatchrey vs native debate!

Silverback, You're right! I checked out WDFW website and they're closing some of my favorite spots Monday the 6th! Too bad I've got to work this weekend. Hopefully , with this rain, we'll get a big shot of fish so they won't be closed that long. Keep the fingers crossed!
