I just returned from sportco and a buddy of ours informed us that the Quillyute system is closed for steelhead. Rumor? Or is this the next closure on the list? confused

Was down at the Hatchery today to look at all the new fish that didnt show up from this rain. People were fishing but didnt I talk to any hatchery personel. I havent heard of a closure yet, but it might be a good idea to enact a closure for the brats and CnR regs for the nates untill we find out how that run will be.

P.S., nobody had any fish.

I agree with you Rich, but catch and release for hatchery fish? How many of us donaters to the beautiful town of Forks will drive 250+ miles for that? You better bring in some cuter girls to keep me occupied!!!! beer

I meant close the terminal areas or everything below the Bogie hatchery all the way to the Pacific and leave the Sol Duc, Clawah above the ponds Dickey and Bogie above the Dimmel Drift open to CnR for nates untill we find out if the wild run can go back to normal regs or if it just needs to be closed also.

Boy thats funny it was 25 the last time I heard and that was the day he weighed it. Sure is funny how a fish always grows a few pounds. I am all for you Rich. But like I said earlier that if they wouldn't of spawned summer runs with the winter fish then the bogie and calawah ponds would have there egg counts. That is the typical game department screw up for you. To many chiefs and not enough indians. But as far as closing the Quilayute system that is B******T. We already lost a months fishing for the salmon closure and that hurt a lot of us. I am sure this would bring some sort of litigation against the state and I am sure Bob agrees with me on this one.

Pat just a quick question. Do you know if mating a winter fish with a summer fish will have any effect on the offspring? Such as run timing? confused

Yes it does screw up the timing of the run. Besides they are two different strains of hatchery fish.Once they realized they di do this they had to kill all of the eggs they had. So there went the summer runs and most of the eggs for the winter runs. Really funny Scott! Pay backs are going to be hell.

Minibear,

If you cross a winter run with a summer run steelhead, the offspring all migrate to Baja for the winter!

Damn! Wish they hadn't killed all those eggs, then I could go steelhead fishin. Just wouldn't be the same tho w/the boringly beautiful weather instead of freezing my arse off.

Sincerely,
Roger
