Downriggin' and I had a spectacular day on Elliott Bay. The weather was great and the fishing was HOT! We caught and released at least 30 (lost track after 20) blackmouth. Of the thirty fish, we caught six keepers (quickly released) and the rest were shakers.

Here are some pix.

Ya know it is good fishing when you find yourself saying, "Ah crap, not another one, I just put my line in the water". thumbs

Nice weather, Nice pics you two. You must have been out between wind storms!
Are you willin' to share what gear you were using (looks like artificial squid... any herring strips/smelly jelly?), at what depth and troll speed? You can use my e-mail if you so desire.

My family and I dropped in at Shilshole on Dec 26th, looking for crab. Went across the channel and into the bay. Didn't have much luck in the hour or so there. Got a call from home and had to pack it up.
We want to get out again and have my kids experience the excitement of the wiggling and bowed rod, eventually pulling up a nice blackmouth.

Thanks,
Over and out

Matt

I don't mind sharing info on this fishery.

1. Use white/glow Hot Spots with white/glow hoochies, spoons also work good behind the Hot Spot.

2. Fish the 140-150' contour in the bay. Start at the launch in W. Seattle and troll towards the stadium. Keep your 'rigger ball right on the bottom, bouncing the bottom is OK.

3. A little bit of your favorite scent on your offering is good.

4. Troll fast, 3-4 MPH.

We followed the tide between Duwamish Head and the ferry terminal following the 140/150 foot contours. Didn't seem to matter at all what combo we used- Coho Killer, Kingfisher spoon, Sonic Edge, mini squid, 4 1/2" hootchy. Amazingly, there wasn't much bait around until the afternoon!

Dangerous Dave put a nice 8#r in the box in his boat. Other than that, seemed we were the only two boats catching fish.

Just like American Express.... I don't leave home without it! At 150' I set the box at .680.

What a great day it was...Downriggin definetely out fished us...think we put 7 in the boat including the 1 keeper. Batter in my scale went south on me so couldn't get an accurate weight of the fish, but after I got home I estimated it at 12lbs....
Used my new black box from Cabelas...Worked great.....As soon as I figure out how to post my pics I'll add them.

Thanx fer the reply.

If you have a fiberglass boat and aren't usin downriggers is the black box still effective?

Sincerely,
Roger

The BB is specifically made for downriggers however, if you are meatlining I imagine the BB would be effective with an alligator clip.
So... it works only with a wire line in the water.
