Are there still chum running in the Nisqalley (sp?). I would like to take someone up there for a shot at them and I heard they might being running still up there. I've never fished there so directions would be cool too. Thanks for any help.

Steelymann,

You can look at the posts on page 5 from last week- seems like they were doing good. They fish are probably still running pretty strong, but I doubt they have gotten any fresher in teh meantime. Might be less crowds though. Northbound on I-5, take Nisqually valley exit, sorry, forgot number, but its at the bottom of the hill ~ 3 miles past Marvin Rd. last Lacey exit. Take Nisq Valley exit and follow sideroad on E. side of I-5 as it winds along on S. side of river- no access reservation land. In about two miles theres a road to the left that proceedes to Mounts Rd. Take left back toward river and look for handicap access road on right before the bridge.

Or, stay on I-5 past Nisq valley exit, cross river and take Mounts Rd. Exit ~2 miles past I-5 river bridge, head east 3 miles maybe and access will be on left side past the bridge.

Hope this helps. I haven't been there in 15 years since I was a lad but I hope ya get an idea where to start.

Anybody else feel free to fill in some of the details...

I went with a buddy to check out the tank crossing on Thursdau. I was appauled! Wall to wall chum. All were alligators. I mean nasty old boots. So bad in fact that the hens I saw landed, immediately began spewing eggs. You could walk the bank and tell by the piles of loose eggs where the hens were landed. Common guys give 'em a break. C&R is one thing. Harrassing spawners on redds is another.

Are there any fresh fish where it empties in to the sound? I don't want to drive up to battle boots. was hoping there might be some fresh fish just in from the salt. Thanks for any info.

SM,
Go fish the Mounts Rd. bridge/Handicap hole area. The directions are in the above post. Fresh fish come in with the high tides. You only a few miles out of the salt water there.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh

Seems like access on the Nasty is a bit problematic these days for anybody unable to get a pass from the base. Are there any places other than the Handicap/Boat Ramp area to fish from the bank without getting hassled?
