I'm a Puget Sound area fly-flinger making my first jaunt to Forks this weekend. I've been doing alright c'n'r-ing dollies in the Sauk and N.F. Stilly over the past few months, looking to get into the same on the rivers near Forks. Any charitable souls out there care to point me in the right direction (not a specific hole - I'll find those, but maybe a well-known access point or three)?

I'm seeking hike-in, wade fish opportunities with scenery as important as seeing a fish.

This will be my first time bringing my fly gear west of Edmonds shocked . . .really looking forward to checking out some primo water!

Rod

Thanks

A subtle hint ... check your regs, there are several pieces of fly-only water that might be of interest smile

Hoko......Hoko......Hoko......got it? Great Water...both fly fishing only above the High Bridge....and conventional below the bridge....many drifts are perfect for drifting a fly....and there are even fish!! Imagine that! If you really feel adventurous (It's more than my busted up knees can take any more) you can hike into the canyon stretch.... this river has been the local sleeper..... let me know how you make out..... and what you think of the river.... I'm sure you won't be disappointed. slap

Thanks to Bob and Fun5acres for the suggestions. Beautiful water.

Fished the Hoko on Monday morning. Parked at the upper bridge and walked downstream. Saw several dark steelhead cruising around in the pools and spooked a couple holding in water less than 12" deep. I eventually got one around 8lbs that took a #6 bell-head leech. It was acting more like a cutt, holding next to a log in the frog-water. It was great to see fish but surprising that there were no fresh ones around.

Also checked out the upper Queets. More amazing water but no luck there. Saw a family of river otters, 3 bald eagles, and more elk tracks than I've seen outside of Yellowstone.

I'll be back in search of chrome.
