How is the Lower Quinault shaping up for the month of Feb.?
Got a guided trip towards the end of the month and then plan on heading down to the Kalama the next day for some bank fishing. This will be a first trip for this east side boy - (I'm excited as a teenage boy in a Victoria's Secret store)- any thoughts or tips on the Kalama would be appreciated.

If the Kalama is slow you can fish Kress Lake, right off Kalama River Rd.

MacSteely,

The Kalama is a beautiful steelhead river that offers a lot of access to the bankie. In fact, way to much to do justice in a day. It's pretty much a nate show that time of year and they're sure to be spread out throughout the system. Drive along the road and find a stretch that looks good to you. You don't have to go far from the car if you don't want, but then again there are places like the canyon (see pic on left) where you have to hike in. Respect private property and watch where you park. The further up you go the more interesting and quiet it gets. Check the regs, it's fly only above summers creek and there a couple of deadline closures too. There are some places to check in with along the road, at Mahaffeys and Pritchards, but you should be fine on your own if you're just looking for a great place to C&R.
