Last year at this time the smelt run was in full force. Has anyone heard of any decent catches yet this year?

I was looking at a report from the Seattle times from 1/31 and it said there was a bunch that are in the Cowlitz right now, but I also saw a report on 1/28 that said it was slow. So, they either just came in during the last few days or they don't know what they are saying.

Exit 39 off I-5 through Kelso across the bridge on the west side of the Cowlitz under the steel bridge. We started there and worked upstream at the turnouts along the road. Takes a little while but you can get a limit. We'd get from 2 to 4 each dip. Water is high; take boots and be careful.

After a full day of fishing for metal heads (we got 3) on saturday, I came to the ol' forum and read this thread. I followed the link to ifish and read the smelt thread to my 12 year old son. Before I could finish, he was half dressed and begging to go. Now this was at 7:15 pm. After five minutes of begging he loaded the car and within 15 minutes we were on our way.....

It took us an hour to get two limits (only had one good net) and driving took up most of the evening. We were home before 11pm.

Exit 39 south, go right, go right after crossing bridge and look for the rigs......
