Pretty slow today in the Bay. Had to work hard for these two shakers (20").

Easy, ever try releasing those shakers without bringing them into the boat? It's the best way to reduce hooking mortality.

FYI
Of all the salmonids that we catch blackmouth (immature chinook) may be the most fragile when it comes to handling!

Hooking mortality studies have shown mortalities of about 30% for "shaker" chinook that are sport caught and released. Any handling that increases scale loss is likely to increase mortalities.

After working that hard for those fish, I'd have done an extensive mortality study...............

Hey Irie,

If I were out there fishing and witnessed your study, I would have conducted one of my own.

How effective cell phone calls to the enforcement office are at catching POACHERS. wink

Hey Carl, we were out yesterday too. We fished up in Shelshoal (sp?) landed 11 shakers, 1 Cod, and 1 Flounder. Hard to tell when the shakers get on, we drug some around for awhile, poor little fishies. Had one nice one on, even stripped off some line, but lost him. My kid was reeling him in and let him off. We had fun though, and did see a couple of keepers landed. Some of these shakers are spectacular! Brite chrome, blue backs, irridescent purple and greens, real pretty fish.

Hey Easy what time did you hit the water yesterday? I was on the water at 7:30. Buddy and I were headed for Shilshoe intill we saw quite a bit of bait and birds by the Magnolia bluff. There was one guy out there and figured we would work that area also. This is no bullsh$@ but we caught shakers all day and I put a 22 1/2 in the boat. It was great thumbs day out here. Buddy and I had 5 doubles on the day and consistely caught shakers up to around 11:30 right after we got checked by the good ol' Game warden and passed their checks. My buddy hooked quite a few 20 in and 21 in, boy was he fustrated. All fish were caught on Green glow Hotspot and glow Coyote spoons. Plus all the fish we caught was in 70 to 50 ft of water. Gave buddy a smile to end the day, by giving him my fish and told him to BBQ it for the wife. Hope to be out there this Satuday.

Fish On,
ErnDog

Fishsalyer, ya that was me in the 19.5 Baylliner. Good job on the three. I see you stuck close in. We followed a bait ball out to around 100ft and a few hook ups there. Thats where my buddy mearsued a 21 1/2. Before you got there, there was also another guy. He was in a center console boat. I saw him hooking fish so we started there. Lets hook up next time when you're out there.

Sounds like a plan. I'll be out next weekend either sat/sun or both. I'll let you know.

I think I saw you guys out there. I launched around 9 am and fished till 1:30. I stayed in close from the Duwamish Head to Saltys. I made a brief run over to Todds and the stadium but the water was really muddy.

Muddy water indeed. We stayed on the north side of West point because the water was about 4x clearer than the runoof coming out of the duwamish.

I C&R'd 3 fish right inbetwen 18-22. None that made the grade. Geoff nailed one 25incher.

Nice day out there though, flat as a pond.
