I need some advice. What are your thoughts on this?

I have a friend that wants out of the river fishing scene. He has a sled he wants to sell me. I've fished from this thing for the past 6 years. It specs as follows:
-18' custom sled, about 90 or 91, built like a tank!
-Side console with steering (skagit sled!)
-Heavy duty, painted, steel trailer.
-Johnson oil injected 150 jet (105), a new 175 powerhead, and pump referb with maybe 15 hours use.
-6 hp Suzuki 2stroke kicker, runs good with like a billion hours on it.
-10' Sawyer oars
-Fish Finder
-Anchor and lines
- Propane heater and fuel cell, net, lines, life vests, cushions, few other odds and ends.

He want's 9K and he'll through in a wood drift boat on a trailer. I've never used the drifter but he says it's been living in a pole building under complete cover and figures it's worth 800 to 1000.

Does this sound like a reasonable deal? I could turn the drifter.

BUY IT!!! Keep the drifter too. You will be a well rounded fisher, with all of the options open to you.

One response, and positive. I'm not looking for you guys to make my mind up really. More kind of looking for pro's and con's and any advice others who have gone through this may have.

I would take it to mean everyone agrees wholeheartedly, I know I do. I just try not to say the same thing over and over...well not for another 3 or 4 beers anyway...

Sounds to me you've already made up your mind about the boat. It's great deal, all around.Wouldn't pass it up.

The reason only a few have responded is because they are out tracking down your friend to buy the boats first.

Titanium,
I have no idea on the pricing but it sounds like an ideal situation. You get the sled which covers most of your fishing needs. You also have a drifter with is probably worth more hanging onto than selling. I don't have a sled, but do have a small inexpensive driftboat and a prop aluminum boat. If I could reshuffle, I'd keep the drift boat and get a sled so I could cover all types of water.

My suggestion is get them both inspected, before you plunk down 9K, by someone who knows boats and can render an informed opinion. You will likely have to pay for such an inspection but it's a very small price to pay for peace of mind.

I do this whenever I make a big purchase - e.g., house, car, etc.

Dang good advice Cohoangler.

Be wise and take it.(the advice) its a big investment.Wouldnt want to see you pay the big bucks, then spend so much more working on it that you cant afford to fish.

Sounds like a good deal but you would sure get a bunch of peace of mind having it checked out.

Yep, that is good advice. I'll be doing that. I know who the mech is that did the work. He's reputable, and out of the area right now. An independent might be a better idea anyway. What I don't know is are there any leaks do to scraping rocks, etc. Good suggestion.
