Has any body tried the 8 1/2 or 10 1/2 foot shimano convergence? It seems like a great rod for the money.

I have a 8.5' convergance and love it. Use it as a spare rod now but for 5 years it caught everything from chum to steelhead. You can't go wrong for the price.

I have both a 8 1/2 and a 10 foot convergence rod. The 10 footer is a bit on the heavy side. I have used them for Silvers, Chum and Steelhead and have not been dissapointed. For the money you can't beat em.

My brother uses the 10.5',as his salmon rod. I think it was well under $100 when he bougt it.

Here's the deal.....I've got four of em'. I use ten six and the ten exclusively for kings and chum. I also use the longer ones for native steelies. Be sure you get the 8-17# rods. They are extremely tough, yet sensitive enough to feel tiny nibbles. You can't go wrong. I've found that they are a bit too stout for jig fishing though. The hook set on the longer rods is pretty intense and while jig fishing I've ripped it a little too hard and lost several fish because of it. I stepped up to the big leagues this year and bought a lami but when I head to the coast this weekend I'll be sure to pack my 10 footer to land those natives as quick as possible. Excellent rod for 60 bucks!

$60 bucks laugh

I may have to look into a few as guest rods. Now that I have a boat everyone wants to go, but nobody has any rods.

I listened to Cuttie the first time when I asked about rods...got the 8.5 8-17#...have had no complaints yet...although, I did get some strange looks a few times out fishin for chumlords...dont know why but some folks couldnt believe I had no problems catchin em with it.

Just be careful on the tip guide, mine fell out this last weekend. eek
