When we left at 11am yesterday, the fish in the lead was a tad over 24lbs. The next 4 fish ranged from just over 15lbs to just over 14lbs.

The water on Saturday was pretty smooth,we had no problems fishing in my 15' aluminum,it did pour all day though. Sunday was really nice, the water was really smooth, with just a slight ripple. A bit of rain, then the sun came out around 9am.

The fishing was anything but "hot",we only saw 10-12 fish caught for probably 200+ boats. Sunday was worse,we saw one fish boated,it was 14.5lbs.

We ran down to area 4 and caught some nice bottom fish,so we did come home with something.

Can't wait for April, and the next derby.

I got skunked. But my partner was temporarily in 1st place w/ a 12.87# fish (which I netted). We released one keeper. Flat water. Lots of rainbows on Sunday.

Man, unbelievable that you had flat water on Saturday - it was so bad at Disco Bay that I couldn't even fish behind the headlands by noon, when the wind got up to 35, and I talked to a couple people who swamped their boats and had to beach them eek Guess that black cloud was just following me around all weekend rolleyes

Now we all heard a rumor that over 700 fish were entered in the Sekiu Derby. Doesn't sound all that much better than Disco Bay - although it's got to be way better than 35 fish for 733 entries I imagine. Anyway, what were the final numbers confused

Spawnout, you must bear in mind that Seiku is an indian word meaning "quiet waters". cool

I don't think there were 700 fish caught. My guess would be about a half a fish a boat.

Thanks guys, gotta love those rumors - got us at Disco Bay feeling real low beathead Still, half a fish a boat sounds like hot fishing to me, and DB it was more like half a fish for every 20 boats sleep

My guess is that Sekiu had about one fish for 3-4 anglers at the most. My boat weighed in 2 fish a 9 and a 12.....released about three other "keepers" and some shakers. Lots of small lings and Canary Rockfish and one huge starfish...

Wound up with only my son and me. Our other partner turned sick on us. Boated 6 and released 5. No need to check it in as it was around 9 or so. There were a lot more shakers around than in years past. Might mean some better catches are in the works for later this year. The fish winning were larger than average for the winter derby too. I won it in 1999 with only 12# something. Oh well here's looking forward to April.
