Ok, I know they are not supporting us right now, but I need some time on the river. I am taking a week to do some flyfishing for BC steel and need some help. I have done my reading and will only be going to Vancouver Island. Gold River, Salmon River,
Stamp, etc...any advise? any good small streams or rivers that hold up well in the rain? Will trade advise on Olympic Penn rivers if absolutely nessesary!

It's only the goverment that is not supporting you guys. Everybody I know wants us to help with the war. Anyways, when are you going? If it is within the next couple of weeks, the best rivers to check out and flyfish would be both the salmon and gold, If you have a non-power boat of some kind it is wise to check out drifting both rivers. Salmon is best fished by drifting and using a peddle bike to get back up. It has been a very poor season overall but late run fish have been the strongest portion of any run so far.

The gold would be my choice. It is much like the Calawha, in that it cleans rapidly after high water. I have seen the gold come up as much as 10feet in one day only to drop into shape in less than 24 hours. the gold is limited in its classic fly water. There are some good runs around the Golf course, the pumphouse below and around the Uncona River, and upstream of gold river at the mouth of the Muchalat. You may allso find good water if you hike the Peppercorn trail upstream. This is a good time to be down around the Pumphouse as it is only a mile or so from the salt water and the spring kings should be stacking down there as well as new steelies. Have fun ..........

Fishing down below the canyon can be very good this time of year. Don't go looking for spring kings becuase the system does not have a chinook run until august, but you could encounter an early summer run steelhead.
If you check out www.bchydro.bc.ca you can find the water level for the gold and salmon rivers. The way it's been raining and with the warm temps you shoyld find decent water levels.
