Would you rather fight a 20 lb steelhead OR a 40 lb salmon

At this point, I'll take the salmon. I caught a 20+ pound steelhead back in February, but my biggest salmon is still only 30 pounds.

Never caught a Steelhead in the 20's, so Steelhead I go.

Then again I have never caught a Salmon in the 40's.

Can I have both laugh

i will have to go with the steelhead just because it would be something else to see 20# of steel jump out of the water in a run.

A 40lb bright king for sure. Steelhead are more challenging to catch but the don't pull hard like a king.

I have caught both. I like Steelhead fishing more, so I am leaning toward that. I would like to catch a 50lb Salmon though. beer

That is a hard decision to make but, I would probably go for the 40lb King. Steelhead go totally mental when hooked, but I love the initial run of a King. It is my favorite sight seeing line melt off your reel at blazing speed, and the they pull a 180 then you are reeling as fast as you can to gain the slack. When people cast off the break walls here most of them use spinning reels. I have seen countless people spooled by Kings, I love it.

i have caught a 40 plus king but not a 20 plus steelhead
maybe the question should be which is caught more often a 40 pound king or a 20 pound steelhead

I have had the pleasure of catching both and I would take the steelhead any day. We get 40lb Kings every year at Westport but 20lb metal are few and far between.

Slabs are all the same....have caught many of both.....give me a 10 pound native summer run any day!! Thirteen jumps before coming unbuttoned is my personal record.....finest 45 seconds in my life!!! Left me trembling for 5 minutes.....and fish quit making me shake a long time ago. beer

I would have to go with the 40 lb salmon, because of their long hard pulls, I have had a couple strip my reel cry

But a 20 lb steelhead is really hard to get smile

I'll take the 40lb Chinook--my arms hurt just thinking about it!

Tuff call, but I'm voting for the steelhead. Personnaly I think the steelhead fight is more spectacular, better jumps faster runs.
